NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane Green Wave baseball team will stay on the road and open American Athletic Conference play this weekend with a three-game series against the Cincinnati Bearcats at Marge Schott Stadium.
Â
The series opener for the team will be streamed online through Bearcats TV, with a link to the video stream at TulaneGreenWave.com. Todd Graffagnini will provide play-by-play on WRBH 88.3 FM locally in the New Orleans area.
Â
The Green Wave head into conference action looking to bounce back after suffering a 7-6 defeat at the hands of the Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin Cajuns Tuesday in Lafayette, snapping the team's five game winning streak in the process. After playing 12 successive games at home before opening a string of five games on the road, the team comes into the weekend with a 17-8 overall record.
Â
Tulane's offense got a solid performance, producing double-digit hits for the 15th time this season, but the team left a host of base runners in the game against the Cajuns as the hosts tied the game before winning in walk-off fashion.
Â
The Green Wave showed their mettle by plating six runs to battle back from a 4-0 hole after the first half of the game was played, getting a big swing from Grant Mathews who hit his third home run of the year to knot the game at 4-4 before getting two more runs in the inning to take the team's only lead of the game.
Â
Kody Hoese extended his hitting streak to 17 games on Tuesday, as the junior leads the team in home runs, RBI, total bases and slugging percentage. Frankie Niemann continues to lead the team with a .434 batting average, while Trevor Jensen leads the group with 15 multi-hit games, earning his fourth three-hit game of the year on Tuesday.
Â
Tulane had gotten a solid string of innings from their pitchers up until Tuesday, and will be looking to get back to solid, shutdown innings against the Bearcats this weekend paced by their trio of starters in Kaleb Roper, Keagan Gillies and Chase Solesky.
Â
Roper was named to The American weekly honor roll after his 12-strikeout performance against HBU last weekend, as the senior has a 3.44 ERA and 42 strikeouts in 36.2 innings to go along with his 3-2 record.
Â
Gillies is looking for his first win as he had his longest outing of the season last week in pitching 6.2 innings and allowing just two runs with six strikeouts against the Huskies. Gillies has struck out 26 while only allowing eight walks in 2019.
Â
Solesky produced consecutive dominant starts as the sophomore struck out nine to help clinch the sweep last Sunday, with his record sitting at 2-1 and combining for the team's only shutout of the year so far.
Â
Tulane has had a 43-11 record against the Bearcats throughout the series history, winning the last two series against Cincinnati heading into the showdown this weekend. The Bearcats come into the weekend with a 9-14 overall record, taking two of three last weekend against the Houston Cougars in Texas to open league play.
