
Bowling Finishes Fifth at La Tech Invitational

The Tulane bowling team finished fifth at the La Tech Invitational in Ruston, La. Freshman Morgan Gitlitz led the way for the Green Wave, as she was named to the all-tournament team with a sixth-place finish.
Tulane knocked down a total of 9,593 pins for a 181.0 pin average over the three days, ending the weekend with a 4-5 record in competition.
"This was a nice little tournament to get our feet wet," Tulane head coach Hayley Veitch said. "I was very proud to see our performance progress over the three days and it felt good to get back to being in a competitive mindset. We definitely struggled with nerves and the different structure of the tournament, but we have plenty of time to make some improvements for Conroe."
Tulane closed the tournament with a win over UAB, 4-2 (183-138,181-179, 214-230, 219-161, 179-200, 200-144), in the first round and a win over Prairie View A&M, 4-3 (240-197, 205-141, 190-149, 183-194, 193-194, 156-177, 161-158), in the second round to grab the fifth-place finish.
The Green Wave logged a 2-2 record during the traditional match round on Saturday. The Olive and Blue claimed two wins over UAB (989-748, 922-818). Tulane dropped matches to No. 5 Sam Houston State, 1,112-938, and No. 7 Stephen F. Austin, 934-831.
Gitlitz led Tulane with at 207.25 pin average with games at 183, 233, 225 and 188 for a total of 829. Junior Crystal Singh opened the day strong for the Green Wave with a career-best 268. She finished the tournament with the ninth-best pin average at the tournament at 197.25.
Senior Madison McCall ranked 13th with 759 total pins and a 189.75 pin average. McCall bowled her tournament-best 219 in game four against UAB. Freshman Yarelis Alvarez opened her collegiate career with a 28th-place finish and a 183.33 pin average followed by sophomore Jenica Baron at 31st with 161.0 pin average. Junior Veronica Petrinec rounded out the Green Wave lineup at 39th.
Tulane went 0-3 on Friday in the Baker format. The Green Wave dropped matches with No. 2 Vanderbilt, 869-817, No. 9 Louisiana Tech, 935-870, and Prairie View A&M, 810-917.
Sam Houston State won the tournament with 9,985 pins and a 199.7 pin average. Host Louisiana Tech placed second with 9,859 total pins and a 193.3 pin average followed by Vanderbilt with 9,787 total pins and a 188.2 pin average.
