
Tulane Bowling Finishes Sixth at the Prairie View A&M Invitational X

DALLAS – The No. 19 Tulane University women's bowling team finished sixth at the Prairie View A&M Invitational X on Sunday, Jan. 31.
The Green Wave knocked down 11,464 total pins and finished with a 191.1 pin average on the weekend.
"I am pleased with our performance after a long break in competition," Tulane bowling head coach Hayley Veitch said. "We were very competitive among the top-ranked field throughout the weekend. We need to work on capitalizing on every opportunity to allow us to get those additional wins when matches are close. Overall, this was an enjoyable trip on and off the lanes, and a great way to start the spring semester."
Tulane (11-11) went 7-6 overall on the weekend. Tulane opened the play going 3-2 in Baker matches on Friday. The Olive and Blue logged wins over No. 10 Youngstown State (957-940), No. 5 Sam Houston State (882-857) and Texas Southern (985-885). The Green Wave dropped two on the day against No. 9 Louisiana Tech (929-917) and No. 3 Arkansas State (1,058-999).
The Olive and Blue logged a 2-3 record in the traditional matches on Saturday. Tulane grabbed two wins over host Prairie View A&M with scores of 947-920 and 918-815. The Green Wave dropped close ones with No. 7 Stephen F. Austin (904-900), No. 4 Nebraska (936-911) and No. 1 McKendree (1,059-979).
Sophomore Amelia Vasquez led Tulane with a 224 in the opening traditional match against Prairie View A&M. Senior Madison McCall joined her with a game over 200 bowling a 204 in the first match Saturday. McCall led the way for the day with games at 219, 215, 160 and 231 for a 205.8 pin average. Vasquez logged a game of 204 against No. 4 Nebraska. She finished the day with a 191.6 pin average. McCall placed sixth overall, while Vasquez finished 17th.
The Green Wave started off bracket play by beating No. 7 Stephen F. Austin, 4-1 (221-169, 181-156, 199-181, 208-217, 195-183). The Green Wave followed up that performance by avenging the loss to Louisiana Tech, 4-1 (186-170, 193-196, 235-151, 214-169, 237-227). The Olive and Blue fell in seven to No. 10 Youngstown State, 4-3 (177-166, 165-190, 192-174, 183-221, 190-194, 243-188, 199-157).
McKendree took the title with an 9-4 record and 12,126 total pins and a 196.2 average. Arkansas State finished second with an 8-5 record and 12,134 pins for a 195.7 average.
The Green Wave will be back in action Friday-Sunday, Feb. 12-14, at the LA Tech Tournament in Dallas.
