Bowling Opens Key Stretch at Wildcat Classic
Feb 6, 2020 | Women's Bowling
NEW ORLEANS, La. – After competing just once since the start of the new year, the No. 16 Tulane bowling team opens a run of three tournaments in five weeks this weekend as the team travels to Orlando, Florida, to take part in the Wildcat Classic hosted by Bethune-Cookman University.
Â
The Green Wave opens play at the Wildcat Classic on Friday morning by rolling five five-game Baker matches. Saturday the team will compete in five traditional team games, setting the stage for the bracket finals on Sunday.
Â
"We are reaching a crucial part of the schedule, and our goal is to pick up some solid wins in this tournament," head coach Hayley Veitch said. "Over the past few weeks we've implemented some mental techniques that will help us to focus in on our goal."
Â
In that last tournament back in January, Tulane earned its highest finish of the season in placing fifth at the first-ever Stormin' Blue & White Vegas Classic, knocking down a season-high 13,791 pins for a pin average of 205.8. The team went 8-5 in the tournament and are 35-29 on the season in all competitions.
Â
At the tournament, the team got a pair of standout performances from junior Madison McCall and freshman Amelia Vasquez, who earned first and second-team all-tournament honors after finishing fourth and seventh, respectively.
Â
McCall leads Tulane in pins knocked down with 4,939, earning a pair of season-high pin totals in consecutive matches last week with 256. Vasquez also set a season-high in pins with a 244 score in the tournament, with 3,738 pins knocked down in 19 games this year.
Â
Senior Isabelle Lee leads the team with pin average of 201.1, while Crystal Singh is second to McCall in total pins with 3,956 knocked down on the season.
Â
After this weekend, the team will travel next week to participate in the Mid-Winter Invitational next weekend in Arkansas, before closing the collegiate regular season at the Music City Classic in March.
