Volleyball Falls 3-0 to UCF
Nov 24, 2021 | Women's Volleyball
NEW ORLEANS-Â The Tulane University volleyball team started the last week of the season with a loss to the UCF Knights. The Green Wave fought hard but couldn't string together a consistent offensive showing, dropping three straight sets 25-20, 25-18 and 27-25.
Â
Tonight's match up consisted of the top two offensive teams in the American Athletic Conference. The Green Wave hit .198 while the adversary's hit a collective .300. The numbers shook out as followed, Tulane's 37 kills to UCF's 53, 45 digs to 57, 10 blocks to 7, and 4 aces to 5.Â
Â
Senior Lexie Douglas led the Green Wave with 14 kills and hit an impressive .323 with 15.5 points. Freshman Michelle Urquhart followed closely with nine kills hitting .250.
Â
Middle blockers Anna Davis and Kayla Dinkins each picked up four kills and combined for eight blocks. Davis matched a season high tonight with six total blocks.Â
Senior setter Taylor Henigsman did her part moving the ball with 18 assists. She shared the workload with freshman Chelsea Harvey who walked away with 16 assists.Â
Â
Sophomore libero Sophia Ervanian lead the defense with 14 digs. Douglas collected eight of her own, Urquhart followed with seven and Jillian Dits came in with six.Â
Â
The opening set remained close in the early going, as Tulane led 13-9, but UCF would rally back with a 7-0 run to open a 16-13 advantage. The Green Wave would try and close the gap but would drop the set 25-20.Â
Â
The Knights would open the second set with six unanswered points before a kill from Urquhart would get the Green Wave on the board. A mid set rally from Tulane capped with an ace from Ervanian would bring them within four at 13-9, but it wouldn't get closer than that. Though hitting at their best clip of the night at .281, the Green Wave dropped the set 25-18.Â
Â
The Olive and Blue would strike first in set three, giving themselves a promising 9-4 lead over the Knights. Tulane would hold the lead over UCF the entire set bringing themselves to match point, 24-20. Unable to close it out, the Wave would allow the Knight's to go on a 4-0 run to tie it up at 24, before dropping the set 27-25.Â
Â
Tulane will be back in action Friday Nov 26, to take on USF in its season closer. Head Coach Jim Barnes' 800th match as a head coach will begin at 1 pm.Â
