
Beach Volleyball Travels to Miami for FIU Surf 'N Turf

NEW ORLEANS — The Tulane beach volleyball team (11-7, 2-6 CCSA) is headed back on the road this weekend, traveling to Miami, Florida, to compete in the FIU Surf 'N Turf.
The Green Wave will face three-ranked opponents this weekend, facing No. 12 FAU at 10:30 a.m. and Florida Gulf Coast at 2 p.m. on Friday before competing against Tampa at 7 a.m. and No. 13 FIU at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday.
The Olive and Blue went 4-1 in the team's last time out, matching up against Central Arkansas (4-1), Texas A&M Corpus Christi (5-0), Houston Baptist (4-1) and Spring Hill College (5-0), while falling to No. 17 Georgia State at home in the NOLA Classic. Graduate students Tarin Mergener and Allie Olsonoski led the way for the Green Wave last weekend, going 5-0 from the No. 2 position.
FAU is 7-5 in 2021, most recently defeating UAB, Stetson and FGCU and falling 2-3 to FSU in a competitive tournament. The Green Wave are 2-6 in their career against the Owls, dropping a 2-3 match to them in 2019 after defeating them, 3-2, in 2018.
Also 7-5 so far this season is Florida Gulf Coast, who last dropped two matches to Stetson before going 2-2 in the FAU Beach Bash in Paradise. Tulane owns a 2-1 record against the Eagles, earning a 3-2 win over them in their last meeting in 2014.
Tampa is also 7-5 this year, heading to Miami on a four-match winning streak after defeating Eckerd, Jacksonville and Florida Southern twice. The Olive and Blue are 1-0 against the Spartans, earning a 5-0 sweep over them in their sole meeting in 2019.
FIU is 14-4 this season after recently going 4-0 in the Panther Beach Battle to take down North Florida twice and Florida Memorial twice. Tulane is 2-7 all-time against Florida International, falling to them on the road in 2019.
