
Tulane Baseball Comes Up Short vs. UCF, 6-4

NEW ORLEANS — The Tulane University baseball team (27-18, 16-6 AAC) fell in a seesaw-battle to UCF (24-27, 14-13 AAC) on Saturday inside Greer Field at Turchin Stadium, bringing the series to 2-1.
Sophomore Colin Burns and junior Luis Aviles lead the offensive charge for the Green Wave, as the two combined for one home run, two doubles, one single, two RBI and three runs scored.
Freshman Bennett Lee continued to make his presence felt as he was walked intentionally for the fourth time in two games. Lee's intentional walk allowed the Florida native to reach base for the 27th consecutive game.
Junior Donovan Benoit got the start for the Green Wave and suffered the loss to fall to 3-3 on the year. Benoit gave up five runs on five hits over four innings.
Zach DeVito came on in relief of Benoit in the fifth inning and delivered one of the best performances of his career. The Green Wave rookie gave up only one run on three hits and collected a season-high nine strikeouts.
The Green Wave wasted no time getting the bats going in the first. Aviles doubled to bring in Burns. Freshman Chase Engelhard and Junior Frankie Niemann followed with back-to-back RBI to make it 3-0.
UCF tied it up at three in the third inning, as it score one run in the second and two in the third. The Knights used an RBI single in the top of the second and a two-run home run in the top of the third.
The Knights hung another crooked number two innings later with a two-run home run by Josh Crouch to make the count 5-3.
Tulane trimmed UCF's lead to one in the sixth thanks to Aviles' solo home run over the left field wall.
UCF answered with a home run by Jordan Rathbone in the top of the seventh to make the final count of 6-4.

Tulane concludes its home series with UCF on Sunday. First pitch set for noon and can been seen on ESPN+. The game also can be heard on 88.3 FM WRBH. Prior to the game, Tulane will recognize eight individuals, as part of its Senior Day festivities.
