NEW ORLEANS – Tulane University Sailing will hit the road back to the northeast to carry on the fall campaign on Saturday and Sunday with two regattas. The Green Wave will have a coed team competing in the Open Atlantic Coast Dinghy Championships – Round 1A and a women's squad racing in the Stu Nelson Women's Fleet Race.
Â
"We're looking forward to another strong weekend from the team," Head Coach Charles Higgins said. "With Ciara competing with the coed team this weekend it allows us to see some other strong women's skippers move into new roles and fresh opportunities. We're excited to see how they do, as they've been competing at a very high level in practice for quite some time. Â Getting this level of experience for these ladies is incredible for our long-term growth as a program."
Â
In the Stu Nelson Women's Fleet Race hosted by Connecticut College in New London, Connecticut, Tulane will race among 14 teams. The Green Wave will hit the water with a starting lineup featuring Caroline Benson with Ellie Spearman in the A Division, Mia Hanes with Essie Clifton in the B Division, and Lucy Spearman with Abigail Borggaard in the C Division. Megan Cassidy and Anna Richard will also be available as alternates.
Â
"On the coed side we are equally excited," Higgins said. "This squad has shown what they can do, and hopefully we can put together a solid regatta together while also getting some valuable time at the spring National Championships venue."Â
The Wave will race among 18 teams competing in Round 1A of the Open Atlantic Coast Dinghy Championships in Kings Point, New York. The starting lineup for Tulane will feature Cameron Giblin with Andrea Riefkohl-Gonzalez in the A Division and Ciara Rodriguez-Horan alongside Gillian Perrell in the B Division. The Green Wave will also have the services off Catherine Anderson, Quinn Keenan, Thad Lettsome and Kit Stoll as alternates throughout the weekend.
Â
Tulane will enter the weekend ranked in the top 10 in the Open and Women's polls of the first fall Sailing World College Rankings. The Wave ranks fourth in the Open poll and eighth in the Women's poll.
Results will be posted for the Open Atlantic Coast Dinghy Championships HERE and the Stu Nelson Women's Fleet Race HERE following each day of racing.
