
Men's Basketball to Host McNeese State in Friday Night Showdown

NEW ORLEANS – Tulane University men's basketball hosts in-state rival McNeese State for a Friday night matchup in Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse at 6 p.m. CT.Â
The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+. Fans can also listen to the game live on the radio by tuning into 104.1 The Spot or by CLICKING HERE. Tulane's "Voice of the Green Wave" Corey Gloor will call the action live.
STARTING FIVE
1. The Tulane University men's basketball team will look for their second straight win of the season as they welcome McNeese State to Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse on Friday night.
2. Tulane is 1-2 all-time versus McNeese, who currently own a two game win streak over Tulane. The last time the two teams faced off was in 2016, when
the Green Wave dropped the match at home, 63-70.
3. Tulane is 21-18 against nonconference opponents since the beginning of the Ron Hunter era. Hunter is also 6-1 against teams from Louisiana in his
four season at Tulane.
4. In the season opener versus UMBC Tulane's starting five all scored in double figures. Jaylen Forbes and Kevin Cross led the way with 21 each, while R.J. McGee was a point short of his career high at 16 points.
5. After one game Tulane ranked third among AAC teams in scoring offense (89.0) behind UCF (98.0) and Cincinnati (95.0). Kevin Cross holds the second best field goal percentage at .800. Nationally Tulane ranks 65th in scoring offense and Cross's field goal percentage ranks 79th.
TULANE BY THE NUMBERS
256 – Tulane has made at least one 3-point field goal in 256 consecutive games. The last time the Green Wave failed to do so came on Jan. 16, 2014 at home against Louisiana Tech when they went 0-for-14 from outside.
43 – Jaylen Forbes is 43 points away from 1,000 in his career.
18 – Ron Hunter is 18 wins away from 500 career wins.
10 – The team welcomes back 10 letterwinners including starters Jalen Cook, Sion James, Kevin Cross and Jaylen Forbes.
9.4 – The Green Wave saw a 9.4 percent increase in average points per game from the 2020-21 season to the 2021-22 season.
4 – Tulane was picked to finish fourth in the American Athletic Conference 2022-23 preseason poll.
3 – Three members earned Preseason All-AAC Honors. Jalen Cook was a unanimous first team selection while Jaylen Forbes and and Kevin Cross earned second team honors.
WITH A WIN OVER MCNEESE...
• Tulane will get their first win over McNeese since 2008.
• Head coach Ron Hunter would collect his third career win vs. McNeese.
THE OPPONENT - MCNEESE
• The Cowboys finished 2021-22 with a 11-22 record overall.
• Christian Shumate scored 20 points with 12 rebounds to lead six McNeese players who scored in double-figures as the Cowboys whipped Champion Christian 110-54 on Monday night to start the 2022-23 season.
• The season-opening win was the first for a Cowboy team since the 2012-13 season when McNeese opened the year with a 72- 54 win over Louisiana College.
• McNeese subbed 5-in and 5-out for most of the game and 11 players saw action while all 11 scored.
• Players to see the floor for the first time as a Cowboys included Malachi Rhodes (12 pts, 7 reb), Roberts Berze (11 pts, 3 reb), Donovan Oday (10 pts, 2 reb, 5 asst), Dionjahe Thomas (9 pts, 8 reb, 2 asst, 1 blk), Zach Blackwell (6 pts, 4 reb), Rhyjon Blackwell (3 pts, 3 asst).
