Nov 30, 2022 | Women's Basketball
NEW ORLEANS – Tulane University Women's Basketball shot an incredible 63.8 percent from the floor to roll to a 90-37 victory over crosstown rival New Orleans on Wednesday night in Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse. The Green Wave dominated the painted area for easy buckets outscoring the Privateers 46-18 while also knocking down double-digit three-pointers for the third time this season as well.
Eleven total players got in the scoring column for the Wave with Marta Galic, Dynah Jones, and Amira Mabry leading the way in double figures. Galic led all scorers in the game finishing with 18 points to go with five rebounds. Jones followed with 17 points on 7-of-8 shooting from the floor and 2-of-2 from downtown. Mabry posted the season best of her freshman campaign with 14 points which all came in the fourth quarter.
Tulane controlled the contest in all facets of the game as it outrebounded UNO 44-18, forced the Privateers into 20 turnovers that were converted into 25 points, and held its opponent to just 26 percent shooting while hitting at a 64 percent clip on the other end of the floor.
Tulane's strong shooting performance (63.8%) ranks sixth all-time in program history for a single game shooting percentage by the team. The performance also helped the Wave post 90 points on the scoreboard for the second time this season. Tulane also scored 90 in its 90-51 win over Sam Houston on November 20.
After UNO got the first bucket of the game, the Green Wave immediately responded with 13 unanswered to take a double-digit lead midway through the first quarter. Galic and Jones combined for 15 points while Tulane shot 53.3 percent from the field to hold the early advantage after the opening quarter 20-12.
The offense continued to roll in the second quarter while the defensive also clamped down to hold the Privateers to just nine points on 3-of-16 shooting. The Wave finished the first half with a 6-0 run in the final two minutes of the frame to take a 43-21 lead into the locker room. In the first half, Tulane knocked down its shots at an impressive 62.1 percent clip.
The Green Wave cranked the defense up again in the second half allowing only eight points in the third and fourth quarters for UNO. Offensively, Tulane posted its third straight quarter with 20 or more points in the third to lead 66-29 heading into the final frame. In the fourth quarter Mabry scored all 14 of her points in the contest as the Wave scored 24 total on 71.4 percent shooting in the frame to close out the 90-37 victory.
