
Tulane Baseball to Host Villanova for Three-Game Set

NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane University baseball team (11-7) is hosting Villanova University (3-11) for a three-game series inside Greer Field at Turchin Stadium this weekend.

The Green Wave will look to push its weekend series record to 4-1 as it has already accumulated series victories over UMass Lowell, Louisiana Tech, and Mississippi State.

THE MATCHUP
First pitches are schedule for 6:30 p.m. on Friday, 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, and 1:00 p.m. on Sunday.

The matchup can be viewed on ESPN+ and can be heard on WRBH 88.3 FM.
Â
Tulane is 3-0 all-time against Villanova. The only series between the clubs came back in February of 2002.

EARLY SEASON HIGHLIGHTS
The Green Wave has played around a third of their games so far and one early standout has been redshirt sophomore Ethan Groff. The outfielder leads the Wave in almost every offensive category including hits (26), runs (21), doubles (9), home runs (3), and RBIs (16). Groff's nine doubles put him at No. 11 in the country.

Freshman Grant Siegel has been a bright spot out of the bullpen. The righty has a 0.56 ERA over 16.0 innings while punching out 17 and allowing opponents to hit only .193.Â

Tulane is currently third in NCAA D1 baseball with 47 doubles and hits .258 as a group.Â

The Wave pitching staff has a 4.73 ERA and has struck out 146 batters over 156 innings.Â

LAST TIME OUT
Tulane played two midweek games against LSU and Nicholls State and split the contests.Â
Â
The Wave travelled to Baton Rouge on Tuesday and fell 7-5 in a game where the good guys were one big hit from coming out on top.Â
Â
Nicholls State came to GFATS on Wednesday and were dispatched by the Wave in a close 5-3 matchup that was highlighted by Jared Hart's bases-clearing double.

SCOUTING THE WILDCATS
Graduate student Chris Rotondo leads Villanova in batting average, hitting at a .396 clip. He also leads the club in hits (21), runs (16), home runs (3), and stolen bases (7).

Senior Cole Patten has started four weekend games and has posted a 1.03 ERA over 26.1 innings. He does not have a start where he struck out less than six batters and has punched out 29 this season.

Villanova has played 11 of its first 13 games on the road and has dropped 10 of the contests.
