
Beach Volleyball Heads To Miami for Panther Beach Battle

MIAMI – Tulane beach volleyball (19-8) will head to Miami, Florida this weekend to compete in the Panther Beach Battle hosted by Florida International University.

The Green Wave will face off against No.15 FIU, No.10 FAU, FMU and No.19 Stetson University. This will be the first time this season that Tulane has faced each opponent.

Tulane last matched up versus FIU in March of 2021, dropping the match 2-3. FIU holding a close 3-2 all-time record over the Wave.

FAU also holds a 3-2 record over the Green Wave having taken the last meeting 3-2 in Miami last season.
Â
Tulane has never matched up against Florida Memorial University. FMU stands at 0-13 on the season.
Â
The Wave has yet to beat Stetson who holds a 5-0 record over the Green Wave. Stetson is 15-15 on the year and has lost their previous meetings versus both FAU and FIU.

The Wave finished the weekend 3-1 overall defeating Louisiana Monroe, Central Arkansas and Southern Miss, while falling to UNO.

Tulane got off to a slow start on Friday, falling to UNO 3-2 in their opening match of the tournament. Lara Torruella and Samantha Mehlman along with Josie Cole and Sam Green were the pairs two get the two points for the Wave.

Friday afternoon the Wave bounced back by sweeping ULM to finish the day.

Cole and Green secured the first point for the Green Wave followed by Haley Gibson and Savka Popovic who took their match in three sets.
Â
Maddie Speicher and Kendall Peters secured the win for Tulane by getting the third point over ULM. They played a hard-fought second set winning 26-24.

Playing on court three was Torruella and Ashton Mares winning in three sets. Completing the sweep was court two made up of Sara Hall and Mehlman.

On Saturday Tulane got the day started with a 3-2 win over Central Arkansas.
Â
Getting the match points for Tulane was Cole and Green, Torruella and Mares, with Hall and Mehlman securing the victory for the Wave.
Â
Tulane finished out the tournament against the hosts, Southern Miss.
Â
On court five Gibson and Popovic got things started for the Wave, getting them the first team point.
Â
Two pair of Hall and Mehlman would grab the second team point with their two-set victory. Right behind them was court three made up of Torruella and Mares who secured the victory for the wave.
