NEW ORLEANS – Tulane University Sailing sits in the lead in both the Sugar Bowl Open Fleet and Women's Fleet Race at the conclusion of the first day. Each completed four races on the opening day.
"Overall, it was a really solid day for the Wave," head coach Charles Higgins said. "While we didn't get a lot of racing in, what we did have was what I was hoping to see."
In the Open Fleet Race, the two Tulane teams hold the top two spots with Green Wave 2 sitting in first place with 27 points through four races. Green Wave 1 followed closely behind with 30 points.
Meanwhile, in the Women's Fleet Race, the Green Wave 1 team led by Ciara Rodriguez-Horan and Lydia Brown in the A Division holds the top spots with 31 total points. The Green Wave 2 squad is in third place with 50 points.
"Across the board, we sailed smart, and our experience helped us stay calm in tight scenarios," Higgins said.
The Wave will look to finish on top in both races when it hits the waters of Lake Pontchartrain again tomorrow morning at 10.
"We're feeling good and confident going into tomorrow, and I'm looking forward to some more solid racing by our team tomorrow," Higgins said.
