Tulane Wins the Sugar Bowl Open and Women’s Fleet Races

NEW ORLEANS – Tulane University Sailing rolled through the waters of Lake Pontchartrain again on Sunday en route to first place finishes in the Sugar Bowl Open and Women's Fleet Races.
"It was another outstanding day for the Wave," head coach Charles Higgins said. "Everyone was incredibly solid all around, and I'm very pleased to see the progress we're making both individually and as a whole."

The Green Wave claimed the top two spots in the Open Fleet Race. The four boats in action for Tulane between the A and B Division races were also the top four teams on the weekend. The Green Wave 2 squad finished first in the regatta with a final of 56 points which was closely followed by Green Wave 1 with 58 points. The top duos for Tulane were Cameron Giblin and Andrea Riefkohl-Gonzalez with a total of 21 in the A Division for Green Wave 1 and Thad Lettsome alongside Alex Makoid in the B Division for Green Wave 2 with a total of 23.

Over in the Women's Fleet Race the Green Wave 1 team finished in first place with 54 points, 17 ahead of second place. The Green Wave 1 squad was paced by Ciara Rodriguez-Horan and Lydia Brown in A Division with a total of 15 and Mia Hanes alongside Essie Clifton in the B Division with a final of 39. Rodriguez-Horan was also awarded as the best all-around women's sailor. Tulane's second team in the race, Green Wave 2, pulled in with a fourth-place finish at the end of Sunday.

Next week, Tulane will send one team to New London, Connecticut, for the Danmark Trophy Open Fleet Race and another squad to Providence, Rhode Island, to compete in round one of the Women's Atlantic Coast Championship. Both regattas will be held Saturday and Sunday.
