
Tulane Falls to UTSA

SAN ANTONIO, TX- The Green Wave volleyball team (4-17) was bested by UTSA (10-11) in another AAC road match.
Tulane was led offensively by freshman outside hitter, Avery Burks. Burks finished the match with 10 kills. Sophomore, Mackenzie Mahr, finished the match with six kills, one shy of her career best.ย
Middle-blocker Sabrina Skyers finished the match with two solo blocks and one assisted block which led the Green Wave's defensive front. Graduate libero Lauryn Burrows had 14 digs in the match to lead Tulane.
The first set was dominated early by the Roadrunners. After an Orsula Staka kill to begin the match, UTSA scored 6 unanswered points to gain the lead and the momentum. Despite coming back within one at 7-6, the Green Wave was unable to regain the lead and trailed for the remainder of the set. The Roadrunners claimed the first set, 25-17.
The beginning of the second set was a back-and-forth battle. Tulane and UTSA traded the lead until the score was 14-14. The Roadrunners scored four back-to-back points to gain the lead and the momentum. The Green Wave trailed for the remainder of the set and lost, 25-20.
Tulane started the first set off hot by going up 3-0. The Green Wave kept their lead until UTSA was able to tie the score, 7-7. After the score was tied, the Roadrunners got back in their rhythm and regained their lead. Tulane was nipping at their heels at 11-10, but three unanswered points from UTSA shut down any momentum the Green Wave had. Tulane trailed for the remainder of the set and was bested, 25-20.
The Green Wave will have a quick turnaround as they are set to take on UTSA in another match on Saturday at 2:00 PM.
