
No. 22 Bowling On the Road at Destination Orlando This Weekend

New Orleans – After hosting the Colonial Lanes Classic last time out from Oct. 13-15, the No. 22 ranked Tulane University bowling team gets on the road to participate in the Destination Orlando Tournament in Orlando this weekend at AMF Sky Lanes. The tournament starts at 8:25 a.m. CT on Friday and then 7:25 a.m. CT on Saturday and Sunday.
The other 17 teams in the field this weekend includes Alabama A&M, No. 2 Arkansas State, RV Daemen University, No. 23 Delaware State, No. 11 Duquesne, No. 14 (in the Division II and Division III poll) Emmanuel, No. 15 Fairleigh Dickinson, Florida A&M, Jacksonville State, Monmouth, No. 17 Sacred Heart, RV Saint Francis, No. 5 Stephen F. Austin, Texas Southern, RV UAB, No. 1 Vanderbilt and No. 6 Youngstown State.
The Destination Orlando Event will follow the standard 13-match rotation this weekend. There will be five Baker matches on Friday beginning at 8:25 a.m. CT and total pinfalls will determine the winners in each head-to-head match. Five traditional matches will follow on Saturday starting at 7:25 a.m. CT with pinfall again determining the winners. The total pins from the first 10 matches of the tournament will determine seeding for the bracket play on Sunday, which again begins at 7:25 a.m. CT. The bracket matches will be contested in a best-of-seven Baker format
Friday, 8:25 a.m. – Five Baker matches
Saturday, 7:25 a.m. – Five traditional matches
Sunday, 7:25 a.m. – Three best-of-seven Baker matches.
On the first day of competition, Tulane will start the day against Alabama A&M in lanes 11-12. In match two, the program squares off with reigning national champion Vanderbilt in lanes 21-22. In the third match, Tulane takes on Sacred Heart in lanes 19-20. The fourth match sees the Green Wave against Fairleigh Dickinson in lanes 7-8. The fifth match is a Tulane and Florida A&M matchup in lanes 25-26.
The second day of the tournament for traditional play sees Tulane starting the day with a positional round within their pool (1st vs. 2nd, 3rd vs. 4th, etc.). In the second match of the day and the seventh match overall, the program takes on Duquesne in lanes 27-28. In the third match of the day and the eighth overall, Tulane and Texas Southern square off in lanes 29-30. The fourth match of the day and the ninth overall see Tulane and Saint Francis competing against each other in lanes 13-14. The fifth match of the day and the 10th overall is against Jacksonville State in lanes 5-6.
The Green Wave will compete against five fellow Conference USA school at the tournament in Stephen F. Austin, Sam Houston State, Vanderbilt, Youngstown State and Jacksonville State
Last time out at the Colonial Lanes Classic, the program finished fourth overall with a 10-3 record. The program has 13,103 pins and averaged 195.6 pins. Kristen Derr was the team's top finisher in ninth place with 1,054 pins and her average of 210.8. Mia Stolakis earned 20th with her 1,0005 pins and average of 201. Derr has the team's best individual game with her 266 at the SWIBC Tournament. She also has the squad's highest average at 202.4.
This year's Tulane roster features six returners in Morgan Gitlitz, Yarelis Alvarez, Sofiia Druchyna, Katharina Mente, Stolakis, Cassidy Williams plus four newcomers in Juanelyz Solla, Emma Fetterman, Derr and Linnea Holcomb.
For the completed 2022-23 season, Gitlitz led the team with 7,992 total pins. Amelia Vasquez had the highest average on the squad at 195.8, while Stolakis recorded the highest individual performance with her 266 against UMES (10/15). Tulane sported an overall 71-49 record on the campaign. The program also finished the season ranked No. 22 nationally.
Next, the program travels to Kenosha, Wisconsin to participate in the Motiv Ladyjack Classic from Nov. 10-12. The tournament is being hosted by Stephen F. Austin.
