
Women’s Basketball Earns 71-46 Victory Over Prairie View A&M

New Orleans – Kyren Whittington scored 20 points to lead the Tulane women's basketball team (2-1) to a resounding 71-46 victory over Prairie View A&M (2-1) on Tuesday at Devlin Fieldhouse.
Whittington shot an efficient 6-for-10 from the field, went 3-for-5 from three-point range and 5-for-6 from the charity stripe in scoring her 20 points, She also totaled seven rebounds, two assists and a pair of steals. Amira Mabry had a near double-double of 14 points and nine rebounds. She was 3-for-5 from the field and a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line. Marta Galic also reach double figures with 12 points along with three rebounds. Hannah Pratt totaled nine points, four rebounds plus two steals. Irina Parau led the squad with her five assists to go along with a pair of steals and her seven points. Kaylah Rainey picked up three points, four rebounds and three assists. Lily Ba and McKenzi Carter both totaled three points. Chiara Grattini dished out three assists in the game.
The Panthers were led by LaFaedria Green's eight points and six rebounds off the bench. Ryann Payne picked up seven points for Prairie View A&M.
The game featured three tied scores and one lead change. Tulane shot 40.8 percent from the field (20-for-49), 50 percent from three-point range (12-for-24) and 76.0 percent from the free throw line (19-for-25). The Green Wave also had 35 rebounds, 17 assists, nine steals and three blocks.
Prairie View A&M shot 28.1 percent from the field (16-for-57), 20 percent from three-point range (4-for-20) and 62.5 percent from the line (10-for-16).
The Green Wave led 22-15 after the first quarter and clung to a 36-32 advantage at the break. Tulane used stifling defense in the second half in limiting Prairie View A&M to a total of 14 points over the final 20 minutes to earn the 71-46 victory.
Following a 16-point scoring run, Tulane's largest lead was 28 points late in the fourth quarter.
Next, Tulane gets on the road for the first time and travels to Mercer, Georgia to take on Mercer University on Sunday, Nov. 19, at 1 p.m.
