Green Wave Outlasts Fordham for 89-81 Road Victory

BRONX, N.Y. – A career performance by forward Collin Holloway fueled Tulane University men's basketball (6-1) to earn its first road win of the season defeating Fordham (4-4) 89-81 on Sunday afternoon in the Bronx, New York. Holloway was aggressive throughout the contest scoring a career-high 26 points to lead the Green Wave to its third consecutive victory.
With the win, Tulane improves to 6-1 on the season marking the Wave's best start since the 2019-20 campaign when it started 7-1.
Behind Holloway's stellar performance, each of the other four starters for the Green Wave also tallied double figures in scoring. Holloway led the all scorers in the game with his 26 points on 10-of-18 shooting to go with five rebounds and three blocks.
Jaylen Forbes finished with 18 points in the contest after posting 13 in the second half. The senior guard also recorded four rebounds and three assists.
The next three leaders for the Wave were Kolby King with 14 points, Tre' Williams with 13, and Sion James with 12. King led the team with three steals while James pulled down a team high nine boards.
As a team, Tulane shot above 50-percent from the field for the sixth time in seven games this season. The Wave connected at a 54.2 percent clip from the floor and knocked in 32 free throws that helped clinch the game.
Tulane and Fordham exchanged the lead a few times in the opening minutes of the game with neither team holding more than a four-point advantage until the Rams took an 18-12 lead with 12:05 to play in the half. The deficit reached as many as 10 points for the Green Wave over the next few minutes, but Tulane outscored the Rams 21-9 to close the half and take a 43-41 advantage into the locker room.
Holloway paced the scoring attack in the opening half for the Wave posting 18 points at the break. The next leading scorer for Tulane at the half was King with eight points.
The intensity on the floor by both teams continued to rise in the second half as the Wave and the Rams went back-and-forth again. It was Tulane made the first push as James drained a three with 10:43 to play to give Tulane its largest lead at the time, 65-56. Fordham then responded with a 14-1 run to put the Wave behind 70-66 with 6:25 on the clock.
Following the response from Fordham, Tulane made the final and definite surge with a 7-2 run to reclaim the lead 73-72 with 3:10 remaining. Forbes and James combined to score the next 16 points for the Green Wave to hold off the Rams and secure the victory 89-81 on the road.
Up next, Tulane will travel to Atlanta to face Mississippi State in Holiday Hoopsgiving in State Farm Arena on Saturday, December 9. The game between the Green Wave and the Bulldogs will tipoff at 10:30 a.m. CT on SEC Network.
