Green Wave Wins Garner Tullis Open Team Race, Finishes Second in Phoebe Corckran King Women’s Team Race

NEW ORLEANS – Tulane University Sailing wrapped up its first weekend back on the water by taking the top two spots in the Garner Tullis Open Team Race in New Orleans and finishing second at the Phoebe Corckran King Women's Team Race in Charleston, South Carolina.

The Green Wave claimed first and second place in its first home regatta of the year with its teams finishing with a 34-6 overall record. In the first road event of the spring the Wave battled at the top finishing behind Stanford.

On the waters of Lake Pontchartrain on Sunday the top Tulane team, Green Wave, went undefeated at 8-0 to finish with a 19-1 record on the weekend. Skippers Zander King, Peter Foley, and William Keenan paired with crews Alex Makoid, Kit Stoll, and Essie Clifton to lead team Green Wave to two wins over Rice, Texas, Wisconsin, and its Tulane counterpart – team Angry Wave. Skippers Matheo Capasso, Ashley Hoguet, Bobby Rielly and Ryan Ehnot with crews Ella May Corckran, Brady Stark, and Raquel Shulman posted a 5-3 record on Sunday to finish 15-5 overall.

Tulane completed the Phoebe Corckran King Women's Team Race with a 3-2 performance in the third round of racing on Sunday. The Green Wave earned wins over Jacksonville, College of Charleston, and Coast Guard to push its overall record in the regatta to 11-4. Skippers Caroline Benson, Mia Hanes, Ciara Rodriguez-Horan, and Lucy Spearman raced with skippers Ellie Spearman, Abigail Borggaard, Megan Cassidy, Lydia Brown, and Catherine Anderson on the weekend as the Wave finished second behind Stanford at 15-0 overall.

Up next, the Green Wave will hit the road for a pair of regattas next weekend, March 11-12. Tulane will race in the Bob Bavier Open Team Race also hosted by College of Charleston in Charleston, South Carolina, and the SMC Women's Team Race hosted by St. Mary's College in St. Mary's City, Maryland.
