NEW ORLEANS – Tulane University Sailing delivered a perfect weekend on the water sweeping the SEISA Team Race Championships and winning the Truxtun-Umsted Open Fleet Race in Annapolis, Maryland. The Green Wave went 12-0 to win both the open and women's SEISA Championships and finished at the top of both division in the Truxtun-Umstead regatta to claim the top spot on the weekend.
After inclement weather pushed the SEISA Championships to Sunday, the Wave hit the water ready to race. Tulane faced Texas, Texas A&M, and Texas A&M at Galveston for a chance to win its third consecutive conference championship. The Green Wave was led into action by skipper Zander King with crew Abigail Borggaard, skipper Thad Lettsome with crew Matheo Capasso, and skipper Asher Zittrer with crew Brady Starck. Those duos finished 1-2-3 in eight of their nine races to cruise to a 9-0 record and win the SEISA Open Team Race Championship.
Following the first victory of the day for Tulane, the Wave hit the waters of Lake Pontchartrain again to face Texas A&M for the SEISA Women's Team Race Championship. Skippers Caroline Benson, Mia Hanes, and Lucy Spearman raced with crews Borggaard, Raquel Shulman, Essie Clifton, and Megan Cassidy to a perfect 3-0 record and sweep the Aggies for the third-straight women's conference title.
Tulane posted 30 total points on the second day of the Truxtun-Umsted Open Fleet Race to finish with 52 overall in the regatta and take home the victory. Sunday consisted of seven total races in Annapolis, Maryland, to bring the regatta total to 16 races for the weekend. The Green Wave finished first in both the A and B Division in the regatta safely winning by 22 points over the next team, Georgetown, overall. Cameron Giblin and Andrea Riefkohl-Gonzalez teamed up in the A Division to post 27 points and win their division by four.
