Tulane Open 2023 Fall Slate Racing for SEISA Singlehanded & Match Race Championships
Sep 14, 2023 | Sailing
NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane University Sailing program will begin the 2023 fall campaign this weekend in Austin, Texas, as it competes for the SEISA Singlehanded and Match Race Championships. The regatta will be hosted by the University of Texas on Lake Travis from Friday to Sunday, September 15-17.
Â
Ashley Hoguet and Thad Lettsome won the SEISA singlehanded titles last fall when the Green Wave hosted the championships on Lake Pontchartrain. Senior Cameron Giblin led a team with fellow returners Abigail Borggaard and Mia Hanes to win the 2022 SEISA match race championship.
Â
In this weekend's regatta there are berths for three separate fall national championships. The winners of the SEISA Match Race, Open and Women's Singlehanded Championships will advance to the ICSA National Championship for each discipline in November.
Â
The Green Wave will be represented by Hamilton Barclay as the skipper with crews Zander King and Mia Hanes in the match race championship. In the singlehanded championships, Barclay and Thad Lettsome will race in the open regatta while Ava Anderson, Oakley Cunningham, and Audrey Permenter will compete in the women's race.
Â
Tulane returns a pair of All-Americans from the 2022-23 campaign in seniors Giblin and Andrea Riefkohl-Gonzalez. The Wave has 24 total returners on the roster for 2023-24 joined by 14 newcomers. The fresh faces for the Green Wave are made up of 13 freshmen and one transfer.
Racing is set to begin at 3 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.
