
Women’s Basketball Drops A Close Road Game to Charlotte, 66-64

Charlotte, NC – Despite a career-high 23 points from Amira Mabry and a strong fourth quarter fight, Tulane's women's basketball team (8-8, 1-4 AAC) fell on the road to the Charlotte 49ers (12-6, 5-1 AAC) on Wednesday evening at Halton Arena by a final margin of 66-64.
Mabry shot 10-for-14 in the game plus had seven rebounds. Marta Galic contributed 19 points, five rebounds and four assists. Hannah Pratt also reached double figures with 10 points. She also had two rebounds, two steals and a block. Chiara Grattini picked up eight points, eight assists and four steals. Kaylah Rainey totaled a pair of points and four assists. Joy Madison-Key tallied two points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals. McKenzi Carter totaled a rebound. Irina Parau had a pair of rebounds and an assist.
Charlotte was led by 19 points from Tracey Hueston. Also scoring in double figures for the 49ers were Dazia Lawrence with 15 points and Jacee Busick with 12. Lawrence also had 11 assists and four steals.
Tulane's largest lead with six points in the second quarter. Charlotte's largest advantage was nine points in the first quarter. There were a total of four lead changes and two tied scores in the contest. The Green Wave's best run was 10-0 early in the second quarter. Tulane shot 46 percent from the field (23-for-50), 40.9 percent from three-point range (9-for-22) and 81.8 percent from the free throw line (9-for-11). Charlotte shot 43.9 percent from the field (25-for-57), 34.8 percent from three-point range (8-for-23) and 72.7 percent from the free throw line (8-for-11). Charlotte also scored 27 points off Tulane turnovers, held a 30-18 advantage in points in the paint, 16-4 in fast break points and 15-4 in points off the bench.
After trailing by as much as nine points, Tulane fought back to take a one-point lead, 16-15, at the end of the opening quarter. The second quarter was deadlocked at 18 points as Tulane held onto the one-point advantage into the half, 34-33. Charlotte played well in the third in outscoring the Green Wave 24-14 to take the 57-48 lead heading to the final quarter. The rallied and outscored the 49ers 16-9 in the final quarter. The team had the lead down to as few as two points in final minutes before falling by a 66-64 margin.
Next, Tulane returns home and faces off with Rice University (9-6, 3-1 AAC) on Saturday, Jan. 20, at 2 p.m. at Devlin Fieldhouse.
