Last time out, Tulane lost to Rice by a 61-44 score on Jan. 20 at Devlin Fieldhouse. Amira Mabry continued her strong play as she led the team with 14 points and seven rebounds. She has led the team in scoring and rebounding in each of the last two games including a career-high of 23 points against Charlotte on Jan. 17. Marta Galic scored nine points but saw her double figure scoring streak snapped at 11 games. Joy Madison-Key and Kaylah Rainey both totaled a team leading five assists in the game for the Green Wave. The team's 44 points was the fewest scored in a game this season and only the third time that the program has been held below 50 points in the last 82 games.
North Texas, under the leadership of Jason Burton, are off to a strong start in their first year as part of the AAC. Burton's 15 wins this year is one victory off the school record for a first year coach at the school. The Mean Green are an impressive 7-0 in home games this season. The last game of the series was in 2014 with Tulane prevailing 56-55. This will only be the second time that the schools have played in Denton and the first time since 2011.
The Green Wave leads Temple in the series 8-7. The schools first met in 2008 with Temple earning a 75-71 victory. Temple also won the last game of the series in January of 2023 by a 68-59 score in New Orleans. The loss last year snapped Tulane's seven game winning-streak over the Owls from 2018-2022.
The Green Wave, under the leadership of Coach Stockton, were picked for sixth in the American Athletic Conference (AAC) this season. The team went 18-14 last year and had a mark of 7-9 in AAC play. Coach Stockton is in her 30th year at the helm of Tulane. The program returns eight players from last season's roster for the 2023-24 season including 2023 American Athletic Conference All-Tournament Team selection Kyren Whittington. The Green Wave have added two freshmen, center Lily Ba and point guard Joy Madison-Key, along with graduate transfer forward Hannah Pratt and graduate transfer guard Kaylah Rainey.
