Tulane Puts Up Strong Fight in Baton Rouge
Nov 20, 2024 | Women's Basketball
BATON ROUGE, La. - Tulane women's basketball (1-3, 0-0 AAC) delivered an impressive performance against No. 7 LSU (6-0, 0-0 SEC) on Wednesday night in Baton Rouge but ultimately fell short, 85-74.
Despite being down 20 points going into the fourth, Tulane fought back, cutting the deficit to as little as seven points by the final buzzer.
The Wave shot 37.0% (27-73) from the field and 34.5% (10-29) from three-point range. However, struggles at the free-throw line (58.8%) and in transition limited their ability to close the gap.
LSU defeated Tulane with a standout performance from Flau'Jae Johnson, who led all scorers with 25 points. She shot 10-of-24 from the field, 3-of-6 from three, and grabbed 12 rebounds to complete a double-double, helping the Tigers stay in control to secure the win.
Kyren Whittington led the Wave with 24 points, shooting 8-for-17 from the field and a near-perfect 7-for-8 at the free-throw line. Victoria Keenan was on fire from beyond the arc, tying her career highs with seven made three-pointers and 21 points - all scored in a stellar first-half performance. Dyllan Hanna controlled the boards with a team-high 8 rebounds.
Next, the Olive and Blue returns to Uptown to welcome Jackson State on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. CT.
