Tulane Squares Off with Cross-Town Rival UNO Friday Night

NEW ORLEANS – For the first time in eight years Tulane University men's basketball will take on cross-town rival New Orleans on Friday night inside Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse. The Green Wave will aim to remain unbeaten at home and improve to 5-0 so far this season in Uptown.
The game between the Green Wave and the Privateers is set to tipoff at 6:30 p.m. on ESPN+. Fans can also listen to the action live on the Tulane Sports Network from Learfield on Heaven 106.7 with the voice of the Green Wave Corey Gloor or streaming on the Tulane Athletics App and The Varsity Network App.
This marks the 50th all-time regular season meeting between Tulane and New Orleans with the Green Wave leading the series 25-24. UNO won the most recent contest between the two programs 74-59 at Lakefront Arena on November 29, 2016. The Wave holds an 11-6 advantage at home against the Privateers including wins in the last two matchups in Uptown. The last time Tulane lost at home to UNO came on December 2, 2009, by a final score of 51-50.
In its last time out, Tulane bounced back into the win column with a 72-57 victory at home over Bethune-Cookman on Tuesday, November 19. The Wave was led by a pair of double-doubles from Rowan Brumbaugh and Kaleb Banks. Brumbaugh recorded his first career double-double with 20 points and a career-high 10 assists while Banks notched his third double-double of the season tallying 22 points and 10 boards.
Through November 21 the Green Wave leads the American Athletic Conference in field goal percentage defense holding opponents to 31.8 percent shooting from the field and blocks swatting 6.6 shots per game. Tulane also rates second nationally in field goal percentage defense, 12th in blocks per game, and 19th in scoring defense.
UNO enters the matchup on a two-game losing streak after falling at Robert Morris 62-73 on Sunday, November 17. The Privateers led by the duo of James White and Jah Short so far this season. White leads the team in scoring and rebounding averaging 18.6 points and 8.6 rebounds per game. Short adds 14.4 points per contest and leads the team in steals at 2.6 per game.
The Privateers are averaging 64.8 points per game on 37.1 percent shooting from the field through five games. Defensively, UNO is averaging 9.6 steals per game which ranks 61st in the country.
Following the game against the Privateer, the Green Wave will travel to Cancun, Mexico, to play in the Cancun Challenge at the Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya. The Wave will open against Wyoming on Tuesday, November 26, at 5 p.m. CT before facing either Belmont or Loyola Marymount on Wednesday, November 27. Both games will be aired on CBS Sports Network.
