Wave’s Comeback Falls Short in Overtime Against UNO
Nov 23, 2024 | Men's Basketball
NEW ORLEANS –Tulane men's basketball (4-2) erased a 12-point deficit in the final two minutes of regulation to force overtime but was unfortunately unable to complete the comeback ultimately falling 93-87 to New Orleans (2-4) Friday night inside Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse.
With the loss, the Green Wave dropped to 4-1 on the season and 25-25 all-time against the Privateers.
Four players finished the night with double figures in scoring for the Wave led by 20 points from Kaleb Banks. The junior forward made a career-high 13 free throws going perfect on the game from the charity stripe including three with under one second in regulation to force overtime. The scoring performance for Banks was his third 20-point game of the season and his fifth game in double figures.
The other player with double-digit points for Tulane were Kam Williams, Asher Woods, and Rowan Brumbaugh. Williams tallied a career-best 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting to go with eight rebounds and a career-high four steals. Woods added 17 points and six assists off the bench while Brumbaugh posted 13 points.
The Privateers were led by James White with 31 points and eight rebounds. The 31 points from White marks the first time Tulane has allowed an opposing player to score at least 30 points since Carlton Linguard of UTSA on January 24, 2024.
Tulane fell behind early as UNO built an eight-point advantage in the first seven minutes of the contest. The deficit extended to as many as 13 for the Green Wave before Tulane hit the locker room trailing 39-27.
After the Privateers pushed their lead to 16 with 15:50 to play in the second half, the Wave began to battle back with a 13-3 run to pull with six at the under 12 media timeout. The deficit increased back to double digits as Tulane trailed 72-60 with 1:45 left to play.
The Green Wave pulled within two possessions in the final minute before Williams converted a crucial four-point play with 19 seconds left to make it a two-point game. With under one second on the clock Tulane got the ball back trailing by three and Banks drew a foul on a three-pointer. Banks stepped to the line and sank all three free throws to send the game into overtime tied at 79.
In the overtime period the Wave briefly held the lead 81-80 after a dunk by Gregg Glenn III. However, the Privateers promptly reclaimed the advantage as Tulane ultimately went on to fall 93-87.
