Tulane Falters Against Southeastern Louisiana

NEW ORLEANS – Tulane men's basketball (4-5) climbed back from nine points down to take the lead late in the second half but was unable to hold on falling 67-71 to Southeastern Louisiana (4-4) on Monday night. The Green Wave has lost four-straight games for the first time since dropping seven in a row from February 11 to March 5 last season.
Three players finished with double figures in scoring for the Wave led by freshman Kam Williams who matched his career-high with 19 points. Williams also hit a career-best five three-pointers to go with four rebounds and three steals.
Rowan Brumbaugh was the second leading scorer for Tulane tallying 17 points including 15 in the second half and adding five assists. Kaleb Banks rounded out the top performers for the Green Wave posting 15 points, eight rebounds and a career-high four blocks.
The Lions ended with three players in double figures led by Jakevion Buckley with 18 and six assists.
Tulane and Southeastern went back and forth over the first several minutes of the contest exchanging the six times in the opening seven minutes. Once the Wave fell behind 9-10 the Lions made a push to hold onto the advantage the rest of the first half leading by as many as nine. Banks hit a three in the final minute of the half to send Tulane into the break trailing 25-31.
The deficit extended back to nine points for the Wave multiple times early in the second half until Tulane mounted a 12-2 run to take its first lead since the 13:42 mark of the first half. The lead changed hands eight more times over the next few minutes as the Green Wave held a 65-62 advantage with 4:11 to play.
Southeastern scored the next seven points to take a 69-65 lead with just over a minute remaining. Tulane quickly cut the deficit back to two points but was unable to tie or take the lead in the final minute ultimately falling 67-71.
Up next, the Green Wave hits the road to visit George Mason in Fairfax, Virginia, on Saturday, December 7. The matchup between Tulane and the Patriots is scheduled for 1 p.m. CT on ESPN+.
