Wave Drops Fifth-Straight Contest
Dec 7, 2024 | Men's Basketball
FAIRFAX, Va. – Despite claiming the early advantage to open the game Tulane men's basketball (4-6) was unable to overcome a strong first half by George Mason (7-3) dropping its fifth consecutive game this season 64-76 to the Patriots on Saturday. The Green Wave attempted to rally in the second half outscoring the Patriots after the break but never managed to pull closer than nine points.
Four players finished with double figures in scoring for the Wave while eight of the nine players that touched the court found the scoring column overall. Rowan Brumbaugh led the team with 12 points to go with four assists and three rebounds. The trio of Kaleb Banks, Gregg Glenn III, and Mari Jordan each added 11 points for Tulane. Glenn III recorded the second double-double of his career pulling down a team-high and career-best 11 rebounds. Freshman KJ Greene also set a career mark coming off the bench and dishing out four assists for the Green Wave.
George Mason also had four players tally double figures in scoring in the contest. The duo of Brayden O'Connor and Darius Maddox led the way for the Patriots with 17 points each.
Tulane claimed the lead to open the game jumping out to a 7-0 advantage after Glenn III drained a three with 17:53 on the clock. However, the shots did not continue to fall at the same rate for the Wave the remainder of the first half. George Mason mounted a 19-3 scoring run in response as Tulane faced a deficit the rest of the game.
The Green Wave eventually trailed by as many as 18 points to end the opening frame down 27-45.
After George Mason reached its largest advantage of the day at 19 points (57-38), Tulane started chipping away at its deficit. Asher Woods scored five straight points with just over seven minutes to play to pull the Green Wave back within nine at 54-63.
Unfortunately, Tulane would not get any closer than that over the final seven minutes of the game. The deficit built back up to 14 points on multiple occasions before the Wave eventually dropped the contest by a final score of 64-76.
Up next, the Green Wave returns to Uptown to host Southern Miss on Tuesday, December 10. The matchup between Tulane and the Golden Eagles is set for 7:30 p.m. on ESPN+.
