Tulane Rolls Southern Miss 86-58

NEW ORLEANS – Tulane men's basketball (5-6) cruised to a dominant 86-58 victory over Southern Miss (4-5) on Tuesday night inside Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse to snap its five-game losing streak. The Green Wave put on a clinic defensively in the win forcing a season-high 21 turnovers and converting those takeaways into 23 points.
With the win, Tulane improved to 5-2 at home this season and 26-14 in Uptown against the Golden Eagles. The Wave also moved to 45-37 all-time against Southern Miss with wins in each of the last five meetings.
Eleven different players found the scoring column for the Green Wave including four reaching double figures. Kaleb Banks led all scorers with 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting to go with five rebounds. This performance marks the ninth time in 10 games this season the junior has scored at least 10 points for Tulane.
The duo of Gregg Glenn III and Rowan Brumbaugh were the next leading scorers for the Wave each tallying 16 points on the night. Glenn III recorded his second-straight double-double pulling down a team-high 10 rebounds to go with his career-high 16 points. Brumbaugh added a team best five assists and three steals to his stat sheet.
Mari Jordan was the final player in double figures for Tulane with 10 points along with seven rebounds. Redshirt sophomore Jake Shapiro also scored his first points of the season knocking down his lone shot of the game from beyond the arc to finish with three points.
Defensively, the Green Wave tallied 13 steals with seven different players recording at least one and five swiping at least two. Tulane also held Southern Miss to just 36.5 percent (19-52) shooting from the floor and 30.8 percent (8-26) from downtown.
After the Golden Eagles scored the first five points of the contest Tulane promptly responded with a 10-0 run to claim the lead which it did not relinquish the remainder of the game. The Wave extended its advantage to as many as 16 points in the final minute of the half before taking a 38-23 lead into the break.
Tulane pushed its lead to 18 to begin the second half, but Southern Miss continued to fight pulling within 11 with 15:28 to play. However, the Green Wave locked down again defensively as Asher Woods scored back-to-back layups off Golden Eagles turnovers to put Tulane up 54-34 with under 12 minutes left.
The Wave kept its foot on the gas down the stretch extending its advantage to 33 points at 83-50 with 1:43 left on the clock. Shaprio knocked down the final dagger for Tulane with a three-pointer in the final minute as the Green Wave secured the 86-58 victory.
Up next, Tulane will travel to Sunrise, Florida, to take on Florida State in the AutoNation Orange Bowl Basketball Classic. The game between the Wave and the Seminoles will be played at Amerant Bank Arena and is scheduled to tipoff at 3:30 p.m. CT on ACC Network.
