
Big Anteater Seventh Inning Does in Wave

The victory kept the Anteaters unbeaten at 5-0, while the Green Wave saw its record evened at 3-3.

UCI right fielder Caden Kendle and first baseman Anthony Martinez posted three hits, two RBI and two runs scored apiece. Catcher Thomas McCaffrey, designated hitter Jo Oyama and center fielder Luke Spillane all had two hits each.Â

For Tulane, catcher Colin Tuft went 2-for-2 with a homer and two runs scored. Center fielder Teo Banks blasted his first round-tripper of the season, a two-run shot, in the third inning.

Reliever Brandon Luu (2-0) was credited with the win, striking out two with two walks in two and one-third innings. He gave way to Ricky Ojeda, who earned his first save by whiffing five Green Wave batters against two walks over the contest's final three frames.

Tulane reliever Trey Cehajic (0-1) was tagged with the loss after giving up four runs on two hits with a strikeout. Starting pitcher Chandler Welch nearly made it through five innings, before exiting with a line of four and two-thirds IP, nine hits, four runs (all earned) and three strikeouts. He also had four of the pitching staff's eight hit batters on the day.

UCI's seventh inning damage came on four hits, three hit batters and two errors. Four of the runs came on back-to-back-to-back doubles.

The Anteaters stranded 16 runners during the course of the game compared to the eight left by the home team.

The final game of the series will be Sunday at 1 p.m.
