
Women’s Basketball On The Road To Florida This Week

New Orleans – Tulane's women's basketball team (10-16, 3-12 AAC) gets on the road for the final time during the regular season and travels to Florida this week. The program takes on Florida Atlantic (9-17, 4-11 AAC) on Wednesday at 6 p.m. CT at Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena. The team continues the road trip and takes on South Florida (16-13, 8-8 AAC) on Saturday at 6 p.m. CT at the Yuengling Center. All the Tulane games will be shown live on ESPN+ while Paul Boron has the radio calls on 88.3 FM or the Varsity Network App.
Last time out, Tulane lost at home to Memphis by a 54-44 margin on Feb. 24. The loss was the fifth straight for the program. The losing streak in the longest for the program since the 2020 campaign when the team lost seven straight contests. Amira Mabry led the team in scoring for the sixth time this season and second straight game with 14 points. Marta Galic also reached double figures with 12 points. It was her team leading 19th time in double figures. The contest was Senior Day for McKenzi Carter, Galic, Chiara Grattini and Irina Parau.
FAU is coached by Jennifer Sullivan. Sullivan is in her third year in charge of the program. The Owls have won three of the team's last six games. The team fell on the road to UTSA last time out. Aniya Hubbard is one of three players averaging in double figures with her 18.2 points per game. She also leads the club with 33 steals. Mya Perry is putting up 12 points per game. Jada Moore is totaling 10.6 points per game.
Tulane leads the all-time series with Florida Atlantic by a 2-0 margin. The teams first met on Feb. 12, 2014 with the Green Wave earning the 74-62 victory. The only other game of the series was a Tulane 88-45 victory on Nov. 28, 2018.
South Florida, who are under the direction of Jose Fernandez, are one of the premier programs in the AAC. The program has split its last four games including a 72-65 loss to Tulsa on the road on Sunday. Romi Levy leads the team in scoring at 14.7 points per game. Vittoria Blasigh is putting up 13.8 points per game. She is shooting 35.6 percent from three-point range. Carla Britto is picking up 8.2 points and 6.4 rebounds per game. Aerial Wilson has handed out 135 assists. South Florida was predicted to win the league this year.
USF leads the all-time series with Tulane 31-20. South Florida have won three in a row and 22 of the last 23 games against the Green Wave. The Bulls earned a 70-63 victory over the Green Wave on Jan 6, 2024 at Devlin Fieldhouse. Romi Levy had 32 points for the Bulls. Tulane trailed by 21 points in the game but fought all the way back to take the lead with just under 2:00 remaining in the game before falling. Tulane is looking for only the fourth victory over the Bulls since the 2003 season.
The Green Wave, under the leadership of Coach Stockton, were picked for sixth in the American Athletic Conference (AAC) this season. The team went 18-14 last year and had a mark of 7-9 in AAC play. Coach Stockton is in her 30th year at the helm of Tulane. The program returns eight players from last season's roster for the 2023-24 season including 2023 American Athletic Conference All-Tournament Team selection Kyren Whittington. The Green Wave have added two freshmen, center Lily Ba and point guard Joy Madison-Key, along with graduate transfer forward Hannah Pratt and graduate transfer guard Kaylah Rainey. Last season, Tulane was selected for a WNIT post season appearance for the third consecutive year. Coach Stockton also became the all-time winningest women's basketball coach in the state of Louisiana during the campaign and was elected to the CUSA Hall of Fame over the summer. The team's top returner scorers from last season are Kyren Whittington and Marta Galic. Both averaged 11.9 points per game. Galic also led the team in rebounding a year ago with her average of 6.7 rebounds a game.
After this week's games, Tulane returns home to conclude the regular season and takes on Tulsa on March 5 at 6 p.m.
