
Women’s Basketball Loses Conference Road Game to Florida Atlantic 80-67

Boca Raton, Florida – Kyren Whittington put up a game-high 28 points in defeat as the Tulane women's basketball team (10-17, 3-13 AAC) lost 80-67 on the road to Florida Atlantic (10-17, 5-11 AAC) on Wednesday evening at Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena. The loss was the sixth straight for the Green Wave.
Whittington shot 11-for-14 from the field and 4-for-6 from beyond the arc in scoring her 28 points. She also had three assists, two rebounds and two steals. Amira Mabry joined her in double figures with 11 points. Mabry also led the team with eight rebounds. Marta Galic ended up with 11 points, four rebounds and a steal. Irina Parau totaled six points and four rebounds plus a team-high six assists. Kaylah Rainey totaled three points, five rebounds and two assists. Hannah Pratt put up eight points, three rebounds and a steal. Chiara Grattini handed out five assists plus had a steal. Joy Madison-Key had a rebound.
Florida Atlantic had four players reach double figures and were led by 22 points from Alexa Zaph. Zaph shot 7-for-7 from three-point range. Aniya Hubbard had 18 points and six rebounds. Devyn Scott picked up 10 points. Janeta Rozentale had a double-double of 10 points and 12 rebounds.
The game featured three lead changes and two tied scores. Tulane's largest lead was five, 16-11, late in the first quarter. Tulane shot 46.4 percent from the field (26-for-56), 37 percent from three-point range (10-for-27) and 62.5 percent from the free throw line (5-for-8). The team recorded 28 rebounds, 20 assists and six steals. Tulane led 15-13 in points off turnovers, trailed 30-28 in points in the paint, 12-1 in second chance points, 14-12 in fast break points and 31-8 in points off the bench.
Florida Atlantic shot 50 percent from the field (28-for-56), 48.1 percent from three-point range (13-for-27) and 68.8 percent from the free throw line (11-for-15). The Owls' largest lead was 16 points midway through the fourth quarter. Florida Atlantic totaled 35 rebounds, 19 assists and seven steals.
Tulane led 16-14 after the first quarter. The team trailed by as much as 10 in the second quarter before rallying to make it a six-point game at the break 33-27. Florida Atlantic extended the advantage to nine, 52-43, as they outscored Tulane 19-16 in the third. Both teams had a high scoring fourth, 28-24, as Florida Atlantic earned the 80-67 victory.
Next, Tulane continues the Florida road trip and heads to Tampa to take on South Florida on March 2 at 6 p.m.
