Wave Wins Series over Pepperdine

NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane baseball team split its Saturday doubleheader with visiting Pepperdine to pick up the series win over the Waves.
The Green Wave won the first game 7-3 but dropped the second 6-4. The home team won the series opener on Friday by a 3-2 margin.
Tulane is now 12-8 on the season, while Pepperdine finished the weekend at 5-15.
Game 1: Tulane 7, Pepperdine 3
Five Green Wave players had two hits and catcher Colin Tuft scored three times as the Olive and Blue broke a 3-all fifth-inning tie with two runs in the sixth and eighth innings.
Left fielder Jackson Linn also had two sacrifice flies.
Pepperdine shortstop Connor Bradshaw, third baseman Charles Masino and designated hitter Corwin Hemmingsen all had two hits.
Tulane reliever Carter Benbrook (2-0) got the win in relief, throwing two and one-third innings with two hits, one walk and five strikeouts. Trey Cehajic recorded his fourth save as he got the final five outs, yielding two hits with a strikeout.
Waves reliever Jacob Grossman (1-1) took the loss, giving up two runs on two hits with one strikeout and three walks in an inning of work.
Tuft raced around on a Pepperdine failed pickoff attempt for the first run of the eighth and shortstop Marcus Cline plated first baseman with an RBI groundout for the final tally.
Game 2: Pepperdine 6, Tulane 4
Center fielder Connor Walsh drive in three runs and Bradshaw went 2-for-3 with two runs scored to lead the Waves' offensive effort in the second game.
Tuft and first baseman Brady Marget went 2-for-5 at the plate for Tulane with the former driving in two. Center fielder Teo Banks added a two-run homer in the second inning for his fourth round-tripper of the season.
Pepperdine reliever (1-1) Matt Queen was credited with the win, allowing just one hit with two strikeouts in one and two-thirds innings. Jordan Cole got a groundout with the tying run on second to get his first save of 2024.
Tulane starter Will Clements (1-1) took the defeat as he surrendered four runs on five hits with three strikeouts and two walks in two and one-third innings.
Pepperdine led throughout after putting up three runs in the top of the first and had a 6-3 lead heading into the top of the ninth.
Tuft knocked in third baseman Gavin Schulz with a double to cut the lead to two but Cole got Marget on a groundout to second to end the threat.
The Green Wave will turn its attention to a 6:30 p.m. home game against Saint Louis on Monday. The Billikens are currently 15-3 after losing a pair of games at Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday.
