Ragin’ Cajuns Even Series with Extra-Inning Victory
Mar 9, 2024 | Baseball
LAFAYETTE – UL-Lafayette designated hitter Lee Amedee delivered a game-winning double to deep center to lift the host Ragin' Cajuns baseball team over Tulane by the score of 5-4 in 10 innings on Saturday.
Â
The win evened the series at Russo Park, following Tulane's 11-8 win Friday evening. Sunday's finale is set for 1 p.m.
Â
The Ragin' Cajuns are now 7-7 on the season. Tulane saw its seven-game winning streak go by the boards and is now 10-5.
Â
Amedee went 3-for-5 at the plate, which also included a triple, while first baseman Trey LaFleur drove in two with two hits.Â
Â
Tulane's own first baseman Brady Marget also posted two hits, including the game-tying infield single that sent the game to extra innings.Â
Â
UL-Lafayette reliever Jack Martinez (1-2) got the win. He gave up a run on two hits with five strikeouts and one walk in two innings of work.
Â
Tulane reliever Trey Cehajic (0-2) suffered his second defeat. He allowed three total hits with two strikeouts and one walk.
Â
The Green Wave showcased its power on Saturday, with solo homers by right fielder Brock Slaton, designated hitter Nathan Rose and third baseman Gavin Schulz. The blast by Slaton staked the visitors to a 3-2 lead heading to the bottom half of the eighth.
Â
However, the Cajuns' LaFleur responded with a two-run shot of his own, setting the stage for Marget's effort in the top of the ninth.Â
Â
Both starters pitched well. Andrew Herrmann went eight innings for the home team, giving up three runs on five hits with nine strikeouts and three walks.
Â
Tulane starter Chandler Welch went seven innings, surrendering two runs on seven hits with five strikeouts and no walks.Â
Â
In fact, the only walk allowed by the Green Wave's pitching staff was an intentional pass by Cehajic given to UL-Lafayette shortstop Kyle DeBarge in the 10th, just prior to Amedee's heroics.
