Cross, Holloway Lead Wave to 85-75 Senior Night Victory

NEW ORLEANS – Kevin Cross and Collin Holloway combine for 55 points to lead Tulane University men's basketball (14-16, 5-13) to an 85-75 win over Wichita State (13-18, 5-13) on Senior Night inside Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse Friday. The Green Wave snapped a seven-game losing streak by outscoring the Shockers by 12 in the second half.
The Wave shot an impressive 50.9 percent from the field and 42.1 percent from beyond the arc. The shooting performance marked the 12th time Tulane has connected on at least 50 percent of shots from the floor and the 11th time the team has shot at least 40 percent from three.
Cross led all scorers with a career-high 31 points on 10-of-17 shooting including a perfect 4-of-4 from downtown. The four make from beyond the arc also marked a career-best for the senior forward. Cross also led the Green Wave with nine rebounds, six assists, and a pair of blocks.
Holloway finished with 24 points including 18 in the second half to go with four boards and three assists. His performance marks the fifth time the junior has tallied at least 20 points this season.
Rounding out the top scorers for Tulane were senior Jaylen Forbes with 11 points and junior Sion James with 10. James also led the team with three steals while adding six rebounds.
Wichita State took the early advantage leading 10-7 less than four minutes into the contest. The Green Wave battled back to claim its first lead of the night 17-15 before stretching it to five points with 9:19 to play in the half.
The lead did not last for the Wave as the Shocker responded reclaim the advantage with a six straight points. Tulane's deficit would reach nine points with just over two minutes left in the half, but the Green Wave closed on a 9-1 run to hit the break down 43-42.
Holloway sparked Tulane to open the second half by scoring 12 points in first five minutes to help the Wave claim a 10-point advantage. The 12-point spurt by Holloway helped start of a 20-4 run by Tulane that gave the Green Wave its largest lead of the night at 65-50 with 11:36 remaining.
The Shockers did not go down without a fight pulling with six points twice, but each time Wichita State climbed close Tulane responded to maintain its advantage. Cross helped close out senior night down the stretch to deliver an 85-75 victory for the Wave.
Up next, Tulane will travel to Fort Worth, Texas, to compete in the 2024 American Athletic Conference Championship. The tournament will be held at Dickies Arena from March 13-17.
