Saturday Slugfest Goes to the Wave
Apr 6, 2024 | Baseball
Tulane improved its record to 17-14 and 3-5 in the American Athletic Conference. The Blazers dropped to 13-17 and 2-6 in the league.
Tuft also scored three times, while Rasmussen, third baseman Gavin Schulz, left fielder Jackson Linn and designated hitter Michael Lombardi all came home twice. Linn drove in three runs in a game that also included his team-leading third triple of the season in the fifth inning. His eighth-inning single up the middle brought home first baseman Brady Marget in what would prove to be the game-winner.
Lombardi added his first homer of the season in the seventh inning.
For UAB, Brayton Brown drove in four more runs, giving him nine RBI for the series. He had a three-run shot in the fourth inning and pinch hitter Alan Choo added a grand slam later in the frame as part of a nine-spot for the home team. Left fielder Logan Braunschweig scored three times.
Tulane's Jacob Moore (3-1) finished the game in fine fashion, allowing just a run on two hits with five strikeouts and one walk over the last three and one-thirds innings. His final Blazer whiff came at the hands of pinch hitter Braxton Brooks.
UAB reliever Brock Hill (0-1) was tagged with the loss. He was charged with two runs and made just four pitches.
Tulane catcher Colin Tuft extended his on-base stretch to 23 consecutive games and his hitting streak to 15.
The final game of the series will be played Sunday at 1 p.m.
