
Tulane Completes Sweep of SEISA Championships

AUSTIN, Texas – Tulane University sailing finished the sweep of the 2024 SEISA Championships in Austin, Texas, winning the Open Fleet Race, Women's Team Race, and Open Team Race on Saturday. Meanwhile, a Green Wave women's team landed in fifth place at the Yale Women's Team Race in New Haven, Connecticut.
In the first championship of the day in Austin, Tulane cruised to the Open Fleet Race title winning by 30 points. The Wave finished with 29 total points through seven rotations to stake claim to the top spot. Hamilton Barclay teamed with fellow freshman Caitlin Briggs to post the best score of the day ending with 13 points to win the A Division. Following closely behind was another freshman duo for the Green Wave in the B Division as Kelly Holthus and Oakley Cunningham finished with 16 points to win the division.
The regatta rolled into the Open and Women's Team Race Championships following the Open Fleet Race and the momentum for the Wave rolled into the competition as well. Tulane posted a perfect 8-0 record in the Open Team Race to claim the title over Texas A&M, Texas A&M at Galveston, Texas, and Texas A&M Corpus Christi. The Green Wave open team was led by skippers Barclay, Holthus, Jack Solmo, and Matheo Capasso with crews Briggs, Claire Lewis, Caroline Caudron, and Parker Kumler. Over in the Women's Team Race Tulane posted a 5-1 behind the racing of skippers Cunningham, Mia Hanes, and Ashley Hoguet with crews Briggs, Caudron, and Raquel Shulman to complete the SEISA Championships sweep for the Wave.
Meanwhile, in New Haven, Connecticut, Tulane closed the first day on the water for the Yale Women's Team Race in fifth place among six teams. Skippers Audrey Permenter, Ava Anderson, and Sammie Gardner teamed with crews Sloane Mullin, Cate Anderson, and Abigail Borggaard to post a 4-11 record.
Up next, the Green Wave will hit the road again to compete in the Thompson Trophy Team Race hosted by the Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut, and the Oberg Trophy Fleet Race hosted by MIT and Northeastern in Boston from April 13-14.
