Green Wave Hosts South Florida for Saturday Showdown

NEW ORLEANS – Tulane University men's basketball will aim to get back in the win column in American Athletic Conference competition when it welcomes South Florida inside Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse Saturday afternoon. The Green Wave would improve to 3-1 in AAC play with a win over the Bulls to mark the program's best start in league action since starting 5-1 in the 2022-23 season.

The matchup between the Wave and the Bulls is set to tipoff at 1 p.m. on ESPN+. Fans can also listen to the action live on the Tulane Sports Network from Learfield on 106.1 The Ticket and Heaven 106.7 with the voice of the Green Wave Corey Gloor or streaming on the Tulane Athletics App and The Varsity Network App.

This marks the 44th all-time meeting between Tulane and South Florida with the Green Wave leading the series 25-18. The Bulls won the lone meeting between the conference foes last season 85-72 in Tampa, Florida, on March 5, 2024. Tulane holds a 12-8 record at home against South Florida including a 68-54 victory in the last matchup in New Orleans on January 8, 2022.

So far at home this season the Wave holds a 7-2 record including a 1-0 mark in conference games. Tulane is averaging 82.6 points per game in Uptown on 46.5 percent shooting from the floor and 37.0 percent from beyond the arc. The Wave is also winning the rebounding battle 40.2-35.7 and turnover battle +3.2 at home this season.

Overall, through January 8 the Green Wave ranks in the top three of the AAC eight categories including scoring defense (67.81), scoring margin (+8.38), free throw percentage (.774), field goal percentage defense (.386), three-point field goal percentage defense (.300), assist-to-turnover ratio (1.37), defensive rebounds per game (27.63), and blocks (5.19).

In its last time out, Tulane dropped its first American Athletic Conference game of the season losing 69-81 on the road to UAB on January 7. Four players finished in double figures in scoring as the Green Wave shot 49.1 percent from the field. Kaleb Banks and Asher Woods led the team with 16 points each. Banks also added a team-high 12 rebounds to record his seventh double-double of the season.

South Florida enters the matchup with a 9-6 overall record and a 2-0 mark in conference play after defeating Wichita State 91-72 on the road Monday, January 6. The Bulls lead The American in field goal percentage connecting at a 47.6 percent from the field and three-point percentage defense holding opponents to 28.8 percent from beyond the arc.

A trio of players lead South Florida in scoring so far this season averaging double figures. Jayden Reid paces the team with 12.7 points per game while Jamille Reynolds and Kobe Knox follow averaging 11.6 and 11.4 points, respectively.

Following the game against South Florida, the Tulane will welcome another foe from the Sunshine State as Florida Atlantic comes to Uptown on Wednesday, January 15. The contest between the Green Wave and the Owls is scheduled to tipoff at 6:30 p.m. on ESPN+.
