Green Wave Finishes Second for Nevins Trophy

NEW ORLEANS – Tulane sailing claimed second place and eighth place over the weekend in a pair of regattas in the northeast. The Green Wave took second among 17 teams racing for the Nevins Trophy and placed eighth in a field of 18 teams competing at the Women's Atlantic Coast Championship Finals.
At the Nevins Trophy regatta hosted by the United States Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, New York, the Wave finished with 68 total points through six rotations to land in second place. Across the two divisions racing in the regatta Tulane posted two first-place finishes and crossed the finish line in the top three five times.
Skipper Tate Christopher and crew Hope Breslin paced the Green Wave in the Nevins Trophy from the B Division finishing with 30 total points to place second in the division. Over in the A Division skipper Kelly Holthus raced with crew Jonah Wozniak to land fourth with 38 points in six races.
In the Women's ACC Finals hosted by MIT in Boston Tulane ended the regatta with 252 total points across 14 rotations to finish eighth overall. Between the two divisions the Wave recorded one first-place performance and eight finishes in the top five.
The Green Wave was led by skipper Ava Anderson racing with crews Ella May Corckran, Cate Anderson, and Lillie Foster in the A Division of the regatta. The racing combination for Tulane closed the weekend with 116 total points to place seventh in the division through 14 races. Meanwhile, in the B Division the combination of Gabriela Vassel, Oakley Cunningham, Skye Terrell, and Martha Hughes finished 12th in the division with 136 points.
Up next, Tulane will be back on the road to compete in the Open ACC Finals and the Yale Women's Fleet Race on October 18-19. The Open ACC Finals will be hosted by Navy in Annapolis, Maryland, while the Yale Women's Fleet will be held in New Haven, Connecticut.
