Tulane Takes Eighth & 12th at New London Regattas

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Tulane sailing finished eighth and 12th this weekend competing in separate regattas both hosted in New London, Connecticut. The Green Wave landed eighth among 18 teams racing in the Open Atlantic Coast Championship Semifinals and placed 12th in a field of 17 teams at the Stu Nelson Trophy.

In the Open ACC Semifinals hosted by the United States Coast Guard Academy the Wave ended with a total score of 138 through eight rotations to land eighth in the regatta. The racing duo of skipper Christian Ebbin and crew Sabrina Anderson paced Tulane from the B Division of the regatta placing sixth in the division with 58 total points.

Over in the A Division of the Open ACC Semifinals skipper Kelly Holthus teamed with crew Jonah Wozniak. The pairing of Holthus and Wozniak finished ninth in their division posting a total score of 80 across eight races.

The Stu Nelson Trophy was also hosted in New London by Connecticut College. In the two-day regatta the Green Wave landed 12th overall with a total score of 207 across three divisions through seven rotations. Skipper Lola Kohl raced with crew Sabrina Casagrande in the B division of the regatta to pace Tulane in the regatta by finishing sixth in their division with 52 points.

In both the A Division and the C Division of the Stu Nelson Trophy the sailors for the Wave claimed 13th among the 17 teams in the regatta. Skipper Sophia Dias teamed with crew Elizabeth Struve for six races while skipper Eliza Corral raced with crew Parker Kumler in the final rotation of the C Division to post 76 total points. Meanwhile, in the A Division the pairing of skipper Oakley Cunningham and crew Caroline Caudron ended the regatta with 79 points.

Up next, Tulane will compete at the Women's ACC Finals and the Nevins Trophy on October 11-12. The Women's ACC Finals will be hosted by MIT in Boston while the Nevins Trophy will be held in King's Point, New York, by the United States Merchant Marine Academy.
