Tulane Earns Education Day Victory Over North Florida
Nov 12, 2025 | Women's Basketball
NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane university women's basketball team powered past North Florida Wednesday morning with a 77-54 triumph behind 58 rebounds, 25 offensive, and 44 paint points. It was education day in Avron B. Fogelman Arena with the Green Wave improving to 2-1 in front of the raucous crowd of schoolchildren as the Ospreys fell to 1-2.
"Happy with today's performance and the outcome, especially on education day," said head coach Ashley Langford. "It's special for me to have young girls and boys in the stands. I told the team it's bigger than basketball today. Some of those young people have never been on a college campus before or seen a collegiate sporting event, so we really took pride in showing them a good time, and their energy was awesome."
Tulane shot 39.2 percent in the contest, besting the 30.4 percent clip of UNF. The game was truly won inside, however, as the Wave played more physically and secured 58 total rebounds with 25 of them coming on the offensive glass. This led to 23 second chance points, over three times the mark of the Ospreys (seven). UNF reeled in just 32 rebounds with 13 on the offensive side. In turn, Tulane recorded 44 points in the paint, just 10 short of UNF's team total. The defensive efforts carried beyond the boards as the Wave forced 16 turnovers with 12 steals, and Tulane had six blocks.
The Wave's depth was again apparent as 12 players saw action today, including all three freshmen. Two of them, Shiloh Kimpson and Madison Gordon, made their collegiate debuts. All but one of the 12 to play scored at least one point, and eight of the 12 netted at least five points.
Kanija Daniel had a career day, recording 20 points to pace all scorers in the contest. She buried three triples en route to her career high scoring clip at the Division I level, providing the first 20-ball by a Wave player this season and the first for the program since Victoria Keenan's 26 points against Wichita State on March 9, 2025. The junior added five boards, a block, and a team-high three steals. Dyllan Hanna joined her in double figures with 14 points, her new high in a Tulane uniform. She added seven rebounds. Amira Mabry was not far behind with nine points and eight boards to fall just short of a consecutive double-double. She tied her career high with three assists while adding a block and a steal. Jordyn Weaver led on the glass with nine rebounds. Ball movement was crucial as six players contributed to Tulane's 12 total assists with Mabry's trio of helpers tops on the team. Jayda Brown tied her career mark with a pair of blocks as one of five to swat one.
"It's everybody helping me, picking me up, telling me to keep going," said Daniel of her breakout performance. "If I get down on myself, they're encouraging me to keep going and motivating me."
UNF opened the scoring just four seconds into the contest, but Jayda Brown quickly brought the game level. A Kanija Daniel layup pushed Tulane in front for the first time, but an Osprey score tied the game and set a tone for the first quarter of play. Despite a Sadie Shores three-point play that pushed Tulane into another lead, the Ospreys pushed back to pull ahead after a three. UNF reached a 20-14 lead with 37 seconds to go in the frame, but Kayla Hampton's bucket brought Tulane within 20-16 entering the second.
Tamiah Robinson opened the scoring in the second stanza, and after a Hampton make, Jayda Brown scored to put Tulane ahead once more. Riding the momentum, the Tulane defense held firm as the offense continued to convert with the run stretching to 13 total points in a row. It was punctuated by a three-pointer from Amira Mabry at the top of the arc for a 27-20 lead. After UNF scored to break the spell, Daniel popped from distance to counter. The Ospreys began to chip back into the margin, pulling within 34-31 after a triple. Dyllan Hanna provided the final score of the half to mark a 36-31 lead for the Tulane at the break.
Daniel took over to begin the second half, hitting a three just nine seconds into the third quarter before adding a layup for five-straight points out of the break. Catching fire, Daniel continued to score as she netted 12 of Tulane's first 15 points in the third. The Ospreys could not keep pace with Daniel, whose three-pointer at the 6:01 mark made the score 50-35 in favor of the Wave. UNF gave its best effort, however, converting a pair of threes before Hanna got to work inside with a layup. After trading free throws at the end of the quarter, Tulane's lead stood at 57-42 entering the final 10 minutes of play.
Kendall Sneed opened the fourth frame with a layup. After some UNF scores, Hanna put home back-to-back buckets. Shores later scored to stretch the Tulane lead to 20 points at 67-47, and a Jordyn Weaver basket pushed Tulane over the 70-point threshold for a 71-51 margin. The Ospreys could not keep up and ran out of time as the Green Wave secured a 77-54 win.
Tulane concludes its season-opening four-game homestand on Monday, November 17, by hosting No. 5 LSU. The marquee in-state battle will get a national spotlight by airing on ESPNU with tip-off scheduled for 6:00 p.m. at Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse.
