Green Wave Falls to Tulsa in Regular Season Finale
Nov 16, 2025 | Women's Volleyball
TULSA, Okla. – The Tulane volleyball team pushed Tulsa to extra points in set two but could not overcome the blocking of the Golden Hurricane, falling in three sets (14-25, 24-26, 21-25) Sunday afternoon at the Donald W. Reynolds Center. The Green Wave concludes the regular season at 11-16 (3-13) as Tulsa improves to 22-6 (12-4).
The Golden Hurricane led offensively with 50 kills and a .297 hitting clip. Tulane was held to a .130 mark with 36 kills. Tulsa tripled the block number with nine denials to Tulane's three. Aces were nearly even with the Hurricane holding a 5-4 edge, and digs were almost identical with Tulsa again holding a slight edge, 59-58.
Lauryn Mack led the Wave attack with 10 kills. Ava Derbes and Avery Burks were just under double figures with eight and seven kills, respectively. Zoe Rachow paced the offense with 25 assists. The four Tulane aces were spread evenly between Dayla Ortiz, Annabelle He, Katherine Crosley, and Rachow.
Ortiz led the defensive efforts with 20 digs. He had nine to fall just shy of double figures with Burks totaling eight. At the net, Sabrina Skyers and Mack led the way with two blocks apiece.
Tulsa won the opening point of the match, but Tulane pulled ahead after kills by Zoe Rachow and Maddy McLin. Tulsa responded with rallies to pull ahead 10-4 and then 15-6. A Sabrina Skyers kill broke the spell, but back-to-back scores by the Golden Hurricane kept them in control, and they would not relinquish the lead from there en route to a 25-14 victory in set one.
After dropping the first point of set two, Tulane pushed back with the next three thanks to two kills by Ava Derbes and a block by Lauryn Mack and Skyers. The teams jostled for position from there with Tulsa leading 17-14 later in the frame. Mack's kill sparked more see-saw action with the Golden Hurricane claiming a 22-21 edge later in the set. Derbes tied the set with a kill, and another tandem block by Skyers and Mack pushed Tulane in front 23-22. Tulsa won the next two for set point, but Mack's kill kept the frame alive. Tulsa responded, however, by winning the following two rallies and thusly the set, 26-24.
Tulane held a slight lead early in the third set at 3-2 after a Skyers kill, but a Tulsa block evened the set and sparked a run of three points in a row. The Wave utilized four consecutive points shortly thereafter to pull in front 8-7 with Dayla Ortiz adding an ace and Lily Wedman putting home a kill. Tulsa chipped away to within 10-8 before securing six points in a row to lead 14-10. Avery Burks broke the run, and Tulane kept pushing as Tulsa kept finding a response. Skyers sent in a kill to bring the Wave within 19-15, but the Golden Hurricane stayed a step ahead with four-straight points for a 23-15 advantage. Tulane notched four in a row to pull within 23-19, but it was too little, too late as Tulsa held firm for a 25-21 set three win to claim a sweep over Tulane.
