Green Wave Drops 72-66 Home Contest to Missouri State
Dec 4, 2025 | Women's Basketball
NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane women's basketball team returned home Thursday night after three games away but lost a 72-66 battle to Missouri State. The Bears used a strong second half to secure a comeback at Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse as the Green Wave drops to 3-5. Missouri State moves to 7-2.
The Wave held better shooting marks tonight, hitting at a 45.3 percent clip overall compared to the 40.3 percent rate of the Bears. Notably, Tulane hit over half its threes, going 10-of-18 for a 55.6 percent mark. Missouri State cashed in just three triples. The 10 made threes are tied for Tulane's season high, and this is the first time the Wave has shot 50 percent or better beyond the arc since February 22, 2025, with a 52.2 percent clip against UTSA.
Missouri State made its mark on the glass and in the turnover battle. The Bears held a 41-29 rebounding advantage, including a 14-4 lead on the offensive glass. This led to 15 second chance points for Missouri State, and Tulane had just four. The Wave was guilty of 20 turnovers, which led to 19 more Missouri State points. The Bears had just 14 giveaways for seven more Tulane points.
Amira Mabry led the way for the Wave with 14 points on a 6-of-7 shooting mark. She connected on both of her three-point attempts. Mecailin Marshall secured her fifth-straight game scoring in double figures with 13 points tonight. She was 3-of-4 beyond the arc to follow her six treys last time out. The nine threes in her last two games are the most by a Tulane freshman in at least 15 years. Tamiah Robinson had six rebounds to lead the team, and Dyllan Hanna added five. Mabry secured four. CC Mays tied her career high with seven assists. Hanna was the lone Wave player with multiple steals, swiping a pair.
Missouri State struck first with a free throw, but Jayda Brown had a quick response with a three to get Tulane on the board. The Bears bounced back to pull ahead 10-5, but Amira Mabry connected inside for back-to-back layups. After another Brown score, Mecailin Marshall put home a three to cap a nine-point Wave run. After trading a couple of scores, Mabry hit a three in the closing seconds of the quarter to provide a 19-12 Tulane lead through 10 minutes.
The second quarter opened with another Tulane triple, this time from Kayla Hampton. The Bears found a rhythm, however, going on a 12-point run to take a 24-22 lead. The teams went back-and-forth from there with CC Mays hitting a jumper to push Tulane back in front, and Mabry's layup with a minute to go made it a 32-28 lead. One more bucket for the Bears trimmed the margin to 32-30 at the break.
Coming out of halftime, Kanija Daniel buried a three, but Missouri State hit back-to-back layups to spark a 13-point run. Marshall's score broke the spell, but the Bears held a 43-37 advantage. After trading some blows, Marshall hit from distance to pull the Wave within 47-42. Back-to-back scores for Mays late in the quarter brought Tulane within 53-51, but free throws in the closing seconds of the frame provided the Bears a 55-51 lead entering the final stanza.
Both defenses were stout to open the fourth quarter as neither team scored until the 7:50 mark when Missouri State scored a layup. The first seven points of the quarter belonged to the Bears with Tulane breaking through thanks to a Mabry layup at the 4:53 mark. The senior connected on a three with 2:21 to go, but the bucket came too late to spark a Wave comeback. Time had run too thin, and Missouri State closed out the contest at the charity stripe to notch the 72-66 win.
Tulane now gets a 10-day break before hitting the court again. The next contest is on Sunday, December 14, when the Wave hosts crosstown foe New Orleans. Tip-off against the Privateers is set for 2:00 p.m. at Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse. The game will stream on ESPN+ and can be heard on WRBH 88.3 FM.
