NEW ORLEANS – Temple's Kaylah Turner and Jaleesa Molina each had double-doubles as the visiting Owls came into Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse and defeated host Tulane 73-56 on Saturday afternoon.
The win vaulted Temple to 15-10 overall and 9-5 in the American Athletic Conference. Tulane dropped to 15-9 and 8-5 in the league.
Turner had a game-high 22 points and 11 rebounds and Molina contributed 16 points and 15 caroms. Tristen Taylor and Anissa Rivera posted 13 points apiece. That came on a day when the team's leading scorers Tiarra East (13.7 ppg) and Tarrioyonna Gary (12.1) were limited to 8 and 1 points, respectively.
Turner and Rivera had four steals apiece as the Owls racked up 15, as a team, off 21 Green Wave turnovers.
Sadie Shores led Tulane off the bench with 15 points and four assists in 29 minutes. Sherese Pittman was the only other player in double figure scoring with 11. Kendall Sneed had four steals and now boasts 13 swipes in her last four outings.
Amira Mabry led the way on the glass with eight boards but, as a team, Tulane was outrebounded 54-37, including 21-11 on the offensive end. That also led to a 21-6 advantage by the visitors on second chance points.
Tulane began the game strong with a 10-0 run in the first quarter that saw the team grab a 13-4 lead on a pair of Kyren Whittington free throws at the 3-minute mark.
However, the Owls grabbed control of the game in the early stages of the third period as it mounted a 17-0 run and saw the lead swell to 49-30 on a Molina layup with 5:07 left.
Tulane only got as close as nine the rest of the way before Temple closed the game on an 11-3 run.
The visitors also held a 38-14 edge on points in the paint.
The Green Wave is back in action Wednesday when it faces Tulsa on the road at 6:30 p.m. CT. The Golden Hurricane fell to 12-13 and 6-7 in the league with a 61-58 loss at home to North Texas on Saturday.
