Tulane Tips in Snowy Tulsa on Wednesday

TULSA, OK – The Tulane women's basketball team (15-9 overall, 8-5 American Athletic Conference) will play Tulsa (12-13, 6-7) in Reynolds Center at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday evening.

QUICK HITS
Temple's Kaylah Turner and Jaleesa Molina each had double-doubles as the visiting Owls came into Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse and defeated host Tulane 73-56 on Saturday afternoon.

Turner had a game-high 22 points and 11 rebounds and Molina contributed 16 points and 15 caroms. Tristen Taylor and Anissa Rivera posted 13 points apiece. That came on a day when the team's leading scorers Tiarra East (13.7 ppg) and Tarrioyonna Gary (12.1) were limited to 8 and 1 points, respectively.

Turner and Rivera had four steals apiece as the Owls racked up 15, as a team, off 21 Green Wave turnovers.Â

Sadie Shores led Tulane off the bench with 15 points and four assists in 29 minutes. Sherese Pittman was the only other player in double figure scoring with 11. Kendall Sneed had four steals and now boasts 13 swipes in her last four outings.Â

Amira Mabry led the way on the glass with eight boards but, as a team, Tulane was outrebounded 54-37, including 21-11 on the offensive end. That also led to a 21-6 advantage by the visitors on second chance points.

Tulane began the game strong with a 10-0 run in the first quarter that saw the team grab a 13-4 lead on a pair of Kyren Whittington free throws at the 3-minute mark.

However, the Owls grabbed control of the game in the early stages of the third period as it mounted a 17-0 run and saw the lead swell to 49-30 on a Molina layup with 5:07 left.Â

Tulane only got as close as nine the rest of the way before Temple closed the game on an 11-3 run.

The visitors also held a 38-14 edge on points in the paint.

FREE THROWS GALORE:Â Tulane attempted 29 free throws in the 69-64 loss at North Texas on Sunday. That total was the most for the program in an American Athletic Conference game since hoisting 36 on March 2, 2022. In the game before, the team made 20 free throws in a 78-67 victory at Rice, a figure it equaled against Temple 10 days later.

WHITTINGTON GETS TO 1500:Â With 10 points in the win over Wichita State, Kyren Whittington landed right on 1,500 career points. She has 1,132 at Tulane and registered 450 during her freshman season at ULM in 2021-22.

FTS AND FOULS:Â Tulane has made as many or more free throws than the opposition in 17 games this season and has fouled as many or fewer times than its opponents on that same number of occasions (including ten of the last 11 games).Â

KEENAN:Â Victoria Keenan paces the league (and is 10th nationally) with a 45.4 percent clip from the perimeter. She is also 28th in the country with 2.67 3-pointers per contest and 30th with 64 total triples on the year.

GETTING DEFENSIVE:Â Tulane paces the conference in 3-point percentage defense (27.6) and is 39th nationally in that statistic.

GETTING OFFENSIVE:Â The Green Wave now leads the conference in field goal percentage at 42.6, a figure that stands 117th nationally.

AWARD WINNERS:Â The Green Wave has won the league's Freshman of the Week six times, five by Kendall Sneed (Nov. 25, Dec. 2, Dec. 23, Jan. 27, Feb. 3). Sadie Shores (Dec. 30) collected it the other time. Sneed's total of five is three of the league's record of eight, held by ECU's Amiya Joyner.

Tulane has earned AAC Honorable Mention Player of the Week recognition eight times. Amira Mabry leads the way there with four (Dec. 23, Dec. 30, Jan. 6, Jan. 27), Sherese Pittman three (Nov. 18, Jan. 13, Feb. 10) and Kyren Whittington on November 25.
