Feb 21, 2025 | Baseball
Luc Fladda (0-1) started for the Wave and surrendered seven runs (five earned) in 5.1 innings of work. He struck out eight and didn't allow a walk. Tulane's relievers allowed five runs in 3.2 innings of work with three strikeouts while surrendering five walks and five hits. John-Paul Sauer threw a pair of effective innings and only allowed two hits and a run.
Kenji Pallares (1-0) flirted with danger in several innings with four walks and five hits allowed in his five innings, but also struck out six. The save went to Cole Stucky as he entered the game with the bases loaded and one out in the eighth inning and retired the batter on a line out double play to escape the jam.
Tulane left at least one runner on in all nine innings of the game.
Connor Rasmussen led the offense for Tulane with a pair of hits, two runs scored, an RBI and a walk. Michael Lombardi drew two walks and scored a run. Brock Slaton, after entering the game on defense, rapped a two-run single to left field to drive in a pair of runs. Matthias Haas drove in a run with a sacrifice fly. Andrew McKenna totaled a hit, a run scored and a walk.
LMU quickly jumped out to a 3-0 lead on a three-run home run from Beau Ankeney in the first inning. The program tallied four more runs in the third inning on an RBI single and two-run triple that also scored the hitter when the ball was misplayed in right.
Facing a 7-0 deficit entering the bottom of the third inning, Tulane fought back with three runs in the fifth inning on a Rasmussen single to right field and Slaton's two-run shot just past the shortstop into left field.
The Green Wave drew a run closer in the seventh on a Haas sacrifice fly.
After LMU got the run back in the eighth inning to again go up four tallies, 8-4, the Lions program exploded for four runs in the ninth to make the final margin 12-4.
Next, Tulane continues hosting Loyola Marymount on Saturday with a 1 p.m. contest in what will be the first of two games played on the day. The second game of the doubleheader starts 45 minutes after the conclusion of the first.
