Baseball Takes Series With Doubleheader Sweep On Saturday Over LMU

NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane baseball team (6-1) got back to the winning ways and took the series with a doubleheader sweep on Saturday by scores of 14-4 and 10-0 over Loyola Marymount (5-3) on Greer Field at Turchin Stadium.
Blaise Wilcenski (2-0) earned the win in the first game with three scoreless innings out of the pen. Trey Cehajic (2-0) started and again was dominate in his second start of the season with five innings thrown, two hits allowed and seven strikeouts.
Michael Lombardi and Gavin Schulz both had four hits on the day. Connor Rasmussen, Kaikea Harrison and Andrew McKenna all chipped in with three hits each in the doubleheader. Schulz tallied four RBIs along with three runs scored and two walks in the sweep. He hit his first home run of the season in the first game of the double dip. Lombardi contributed three hits and three runs scored along with two walks. Rasmussen totaled three RBIs, three runs scored and two walks. Harrison picked up two doubles and three RBIs. Tanner Chun hit his first collegiate home run with scored two runs. Jason Wachs crossed the plate four times. Nine different Tulane players had at least a hit in the two games and 11 drove in at least a run.
The Green Wave pitching staff struck out 25 batters in 18 innings of work while scattering eight hits, four runs, five walks and seven hit by pitches.
The loss in the first game went to LMU's Jacob Hughes (0-1) who allowed three runs in 1.2 innings on the mound. Jonah Johnson (1-1) was tagged with the loss in the second game for LMU as he surrendered five runs on six his 1.2 innings on the mound.
Next, Tulane travels down the road to take on Nicholls on Tuesday in Thibodaux at 6:30 p.m. The program then goes across the country to California to take on Pepperdine from Feb. 28 – March 2 and Long Beach State on March 3.
Notables
The two wins evened the Green Wave at 3-3 all-time against LMU…Tulane is now 23-22 all-time against the West Coast Conference…Dominic Pieto and Julius Ejike-Charles both made their Tulane debuts in the games on the mound…The shutout was the first for Tulane this season and the first since registering one against Nicholls in the Corvallis Regional last season (3-0 – 6/1/24).
