
Baseball Earns 13-3 Road Win Over Nicholls

Connor Rasmussen led the attack with two hits and four RBIs. Jason Wachs picked up three hits plus an RBI and a run scored. Hugh Pinkney totaled two RBIs on his double. Tanner Chun had a hit and scored a run. Matthias Haas picked up a run and an RBI. Gavin Schulz had a hit and an RBI. James Agabedis III had a pinch-hit RBI single and scored a run. Nate Johnson walked four times and scored twice.
Blaise Wilcenski (3-0) earned his third relief victory of the season with 1.2 scoreless frames out of the pen. The team ended up using eight different relief pitchers and struck out 14 Colonels. Jacob Moore had 1.1 scoreless innings out of the pen with three strikeouts. Michael Lombardi closed out the game in the ninth with a strikeout. The loss went to Nicholls starter Koen van'T Klooster (0-2) as he allowed five runs in four innings worked.
The Colonels took an early lead in the second on a home run from Matt Melancon.
The Green Wave wrestled the lead back in the top of the third on a Rasmussen single, a balk with the bases loaded and a sacrifice fly from Haas.
Tulane added two more runs to the advantage in the fourth on a two-run double from Pinkney to go up 5-1.
Wachs added a run to the Tulane lead in the fifth with his single up the middle.
Nicholls cut the deficit to three with a run in the fifth and seventh inning.
In the eighth inning, Wachs started the rally with a triple to left field. He was pinch run for by Theo Bryant IV who scampered home on a wild pitch. Rasmussen had the big hit of the inning with his two-out single to right field to drive in a pair and put the Green Wave up 9-3.
The program finished the scoring with four runs in the ninth with Schulz, Agabedis and Rasmussen all picking up RBIs to make the final score 13-3.
Next, Tulane goes across the country to California to take on Pepperdine from Feb. 28 – March 2 and Long Beach State on March 3.
Notables
The win improved Tulane to 68-27 all-time against Nicholls…The program with 11 runs today has now reached double digits in runs in six of the team's eight games…The win improved Tulane to 305-162 against current schools in the Southland Conference including 2-0 this season against SLC and in-state competition…Nate Johnson is the second Tulane player to walk four times in a game this season following Matthias Haas in the middle game against Loyola Marymount (2/22).
