TULANE GAME NOTES
New Orleans, LA - The Tulane baseball team (7-1) heads to California this week to play a total of four games. The program first heads to Malibu to take on Pepperdine (1-8) starting on Friday, Feb. 28, afternoon at 3:30 p.m. CT. at Eddie D. Field Stadium for a three-game set. The final two games for Tulane against Pepperdine on the weekend will start at 3 p.m. CT. on both Saturday, March 1, and Sunday, March 2. The team then stays in California and travels to Long Beach to play a single contest against Long Beach State (4-4) on Monday, March 3, starting at 8 p.m. CT. on Bohl Diamond at Blair Field.

All four games over the course of the trip will be streamed on ESPN+. The Voice of the Green Wave, Corey Gloor, will call all the action on the WRBH 88.3/Varsity Network. Airtime for radio for the game is 15 minutes before first pitch each day.
Pitching Matchups
Tulane is slated to start lefty Luc Fladda in the opener on Friday afternoon against the Waves. Fladda has been the team's Friday starter in each of the first two weekends of the season. He is 0-1 on the campaign with 16 strikeouts in 10.1 innings worked. The 6-1 lefthander went 5-3 last year in his first season as a member of the Green Wave, sporting an earned run average of 4.77 with 61 strikeouts and 21 walks in 83 innings.
Saturday will see Tulane start 6-8 righty Trey Cehajic. Cehajic is 2-0 on the year with a 2.70 ERA with 11 strikeouts in 10 innings pitched. He worked as the team's Sunday starter in each of the first two weekends but moved up a day in the rotation for the series. Cehajic hails from Shreveport, Louisiana and is in his second year with the program. As a junior he worked exclusively out of the bullpen in his 19 appearances. He placed second on the team with four saves while totaling 15 strikeouts in 27.1 innings thrown and a 0-2 record.
The Sunday starter for Tulane is to be determined at this point
Pepperdine has not announced any of their starters for the series.
On Monday against Long Beach State, Tulane will determine the team's starter following the weekend's action.
Long Beach State is expected to start righty Owen Geise, but that will also be determined following the weekend series for them against Michigan.
Scouting Pepperdine
Pepperdine is off to 1-8 start this season after a weekend series against Utah and playing at the Tony Gwynn Legacy Tournament (vs. UC San Diego, vs. Long Beach State and vs. San Diego State) in the first two weekends of the year plus a mid-week 13-2 loss to No. 20 UC Santa Barbara on Tuesday. The team has surrendered double digits runs in five of the nine games this season. The Waves are also 0-5 in home games on the campaign. Julian Nunez leads the team with his .308 batting average, eight hits, two home runs and 15 RBIs. Max Aude has a team-high five RBIs. Tommy Scavone has been the squad's best starter with 12 strikeouts in 10 innings worked along a 2.70 ERA. Jordan Cole has struck out 11 in 9.1 innings plus has a pair of starts. Collin Valentine has been the top reliever with 10 strikeouts in 5.2 innings worked. The Waves are coached by Tyler LaTorre. LaTorre is in his first year leading the program after two seasons at Westmont. Westmont won the 2023 NAIA National Championship in his first year leading that program.
Series History
Tulane leads the all-time series with Pepperdine by a 17-11 count since the teams started playing against each other in 2001. The Green Wave took two of three against Pepperdine last season in New Orleans (3/15-16/24)
Against the West Coast Conference
The games against Pepperdine will be games the fourth-sixth against West Coast Conference schools. The Green Wave took two of three against Loyola Marymount last weekend (2/21-22/25). Tulane is now 23-22 all-time against WCC opponents. The program's first contest against a current WCC team came in 1978 against Santa Clara.
Scouting Long Beach State
Long Beach State is 4-4 on the campaign coming into their next weekend series against Michigan. The program lost a mid-week to Utah on Monday by a 9-1 score. Long Beach State has scored in double figures in three games this year with a high of 19 runs against Northwestern to start the year. The Dirtbags are 1-2 in home games this season entering the Michigan three-game series this weekend. Armando Briseno leads the team in batting average (.313), hits (10), doubles (2), home runs (2), RBIs (11) and total bases. Kyle Ashworth has also been impressive with a .308 batting average, 11 runs scored, two home runs, 10 RBIs, 15 total bases and eight walks. The team's best starter has been Josh Donegan. Donegan has struck out 12 in 10 innings and limited opponents to a .143 batting average. The expected potential starter Owen Geis is 1-2 on the year with five strikeouts in 7.1 innings pitched. The Dirtbags are coached by TJ Bruce. Bruce is in his first year working with the program after previously working as the head coach at Nevada (2015-22)

The Tulane baseball team (7-1) earned an impressive 13-3 road win over Nicholls (5-4) on Tuesday at Ben Didier Field in Thibodaux. Connor Rasmussen led the attack with two hits and four RBIs. Jason Wachs picked up three hits plus an RBI and a run scored. Hugh Pinkney totaled two RBIs on his double. Tanner Chun had a hit and scored a run. Matthias Haas picked up a run and an RBI. Gavin Schulz had a hit and an RBI. James Agabedis III had a pinch-hit RBI single and scored a run. Nate Johnson walked four times and scored twice. Blaise Wilcenski (3-0) earned his third relief victory of the season with 1.2 scoreless frames out of the pen. The team ended up using eight different relief pitchers and struck out 14 Colonels. Jacob Moore had 1.1 scoreless innings out of the pen with three strikeouts. Michael Lombardi closed out the game in the ninth with a strikeout.
Notables From Nicholls Game
The win improved Tulane to 68-27 all-time against Nicholls. The program with 11 runs in the game has now reached double digits in runs in six of the team's eight games. The win improved Tulane to 305-162 against current schools in the Southland Conference including 2-0 this season against SLC and in-state competition. Nate Johnson was the second Tulane player to walk four times in a game already this season following Matthias Haas in the middle game against Loyola Marymount (2/22).

After the California road trip, Tulane returns home to Greer Field at Turchin Stadium to take on North Dakota State from March 7-9 starting on Friday at 6:30 p.m. The team then has a mid-week rematch at home against Nicholls on March 11 starting at 6:30 p.m.
