Baseball Travels to Take on Nicholls On Tuesday

TULANE GAME NOTES
NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane baseball team (6-1) starts a five-game road trip close to home in Thibodaux, Louisiana taking on Nicholls (5-2) on Tuesday, Feb. 25, at 6:30 p.m. at Ben Meyer Diamond.

The game will not be streamed on ESPN+ or available anywhere other than being at the ballpark for viewing. The Voice of the Green Wave, Corey Gloor, will call the action on the Varsity Network/WRBH Tunein. Airtime for radio for the game is 15 minutes before first pitch.
Pitching Matchup
The Green Wave will start righty J.D. Rodriguez on Tuesday. The junior transfer from Corona, Calif. played at Golden West College last season where he appeared in 20 games with seven starts. He won four games, had four saves and struck out 72 in 74 innings pitched. He went 2.2 innings in his first Tulane start against the Mavericks (2/15) to start the season with two walks, two hit by pitches and two strikeouts. Last weekend against Loyola Marymount (2/22) he started and went an inning with two runs allowed and a strikeout. Nicholls has not announced their starter for the midweek game.
Scouting Nicholls
Nicholls is off to a 5-2 start this season after sweeping Little Rock over the weekend. The Colonels takes on LSU on Monday on the road before welcoming in Tulane. The program is being led by Karson Irvin who leads the team in both hits (10) and RBIs (9). Head Coach Brent Haring is in his first year in charge of the program.
Series History
Tulane leads the all-time series with Nicholls 67-27. The Green Wave defeated the Colonels in all three matchups last season including a 3-0 victory in the Corvallis Regional last June to eliminate Nicholls from the 2024 NCAA Regional.
Against the Southland Conference
The game against Nicholls is the second of nine games against the Southland Conference this season for Tulane. The program defeated Southeastern Louisiana on Feb. 19 in Hammond to improve the team's all-time mark to 304-162 against current schools in the SLC.
Last Time Out
The Tulane baseball team (6-1) got back to the winning ways and took the series with a doubleheader sweep on Saturday, Feb. 22, by scores of 14-4 and 10-0 over Loyola Marymount (5-3) on Greer Field at Turchin Stadium. Blaise Wilcenski (2-0) earned the win in the first game with three scoreless innings out of the pen. Trey Cehajic (2-0) started and again was dominate in his second start of the season with five innings thrown, two hits allowed and seven strikeouts. Michael Lombardi and Gavin Schulz both had four hits on the day. Connor Rasmussen, Kaikea Harrison and Andrew McKenna all chipped in with three hits each in the doubleheader. Schulz tallied four RBIs along with three runs scored and two walks in the sweep. He his first home run of the season in the first game of the double dip. Lombardi contributed three hits and three runs scored along with two walks. Rasmussen totaled three RBIs, three runs scored and two walks. Harrison picked up two doubles and three RBIs. Tanner Chun hit his first collegiate home run with scored two runs. Jason Wachs crossed the plate four times. Nine different Tulane players had at least a hit in the two games and 11 drove in at least a run. The Green Wave pitching staff struck out 25 batters in 18 innings of work while scattering eight hits, four runs, five walks and seven hit by pitches.
Notables from Loyola Marymount Series
The Green Wave are now 3-3 all-time against LMU with all six games having been played in New Orleans. Tulane is 6-1 on the season for the first time since 2022 when the program started the year having won eight of the first nine games. Tulane is now 23-22 all-time against the West Coast Conference. The 10-0 shutout in the third game of the series (2/22/25) was the first for Tulane this season and the first since registering one against Nicholls in the Corvallis Regional last season (3-0 – 6/1/24). Matthias Haas drew four walks in the middle game of the series on Saturday. The four walks in a game was last accomplished for Tulane by Marcus Cline last season vs. East Carolina (5/10/24). Luc Fladda tied his career-high in strikeouts for the second time this season with eight against the Lions (2/21).

Connor Rasmussen, in his last four games, is hitting .500 with seven hits, five runs scored, four RBIs, two doubles, 11 total bases, a .786 slugging percentage, four walks and an on-base percentage of .632. Matthias Haas is hitting .364 over the last week with four runs scored, four hits, three doubles, two RBIs, six walks, a slugging percentage of .636 and an on-base percentage of .579. Michael Lombardi is hitting .333 with five hits, four runs scored, two doubles and five RBIs in his last four contest. Andrew McKenna is hitting .667 in his last three games with three runs, four hits and two doubles. Brock Slaton over the last week had three hits, two doubles and four RBIs. Kaikea Harrison, in his last four games, has five hits and five runs scored.

Trey Cehajic is tied the conference lead in wins with two along seven players in the league including teammate Blaise Wilcenski. Luc Fladda has yet to walk a batter this season in 10.1 innings worked to tie for the national lead...He is also third in the AAC in strikeouts with 16. Tanner Chun, Michael Lombardi and Connor Rasmussen are tied for the conference lead with a triple. Jackson Linn is third in the conference in stolen bases (3). Lombardi is tied for the conference lead in saves with one. Lombardi is tied with Gavin Schulz for third in the conference in walks with seven. Rasmussen is ranked second in the conference in runs with 10.

After the Nicholls game on Tuesday, the Green Wave continue the extended road trip and heads to the West Coast to take on Pepperdine for a three-game series from Feb. 28 – March 2 in Malibu, Calif. and then has a single contest against Long Beach State on March 3 in Long Beach, Calif. before returning home to host North Dakota State from March 7-9
